The state of Georgia includes multiple regional tournaments, which serve as qualifiers for the state tournament. Regional tournaments are open - teams can choose which regional they want to attend (per space availability) - and historically each regional has been single-division.
State tournament bids are allocated approximately proportionally to the number of schools (not teams, since multiple teams from the same school cannot qualify for the state tournament in Georgia) at each regional tournament, which is to say that regionals with more schools will be allotted more bids. Historically, the state tournament has ranged from 24 to 30 teams in each division, although the number has trended upward over time. In previous years there have been "wild card" bids, which were allocated to some teams that narrowly missed the regular cutoff.
