1987 marked the first year that a Division B State Tournament was held in Wisconsin.
At the Division B state tournament Morse Middle School won the inaugural state tournament title. Menomonie Middle School finished as the state runner-up.. The third place team from this tournament was DC Everest Middle School.
At the Division C state tournament Madison West High School won the state tournament title for the first time in school history. Washington Park High School earned the state runner-up trophy for the first time in school history. The third place team from this tournament is not known.
