William M. Meredith School, commonly referred to as Meredith is a K-8 elementary and middle school located in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania which competes at the Southeast Pennsylvania Regional. They are 5-time champions of the Southeast Urban Pennsylvania Tournament and have made it to states from 2023-2025.
School Info
Meredith is in the same district (School District of Philadelphia) as Julia R. Masterman School, their greatest rival, and Vare-Washington School being their next biggest competitor. It was built in the early 1930s and opened as a performing arts school, which it no longer identifies as but still has a robust theater program. Like most middle schools in the area, it feeds into Furness High School, but the majority of students attend magnet schools after graduation.
Meredith's mascot is a Magic the Bear, but their logo consists of an M in a star. The mascot was chosen by the students.
History
Meredith first qualified for states in 2023 by placing 11th at the Southeast Pennsylvania Regional, and then earned close to last place at states. They improved in 2024 and 2025 by placing all the way to 7th at regionals and 16th at states in 2025.
In addition to regionals and states, Meredith has also competed in the Pitt Invitational in 2024 and the Southeast Urban Pennsylvania Tournament since the founding of the team.
