Bernard is a Science Olympiad alumnus and Scioly.org administrator from Washington state who is also involved with Science Olympiad at the local and national levels.
About
As Competitor
Bernard attended Interlake High School in Bellevue, WA from 2011 to 2015 and joined Science Olympiad during his freshman year, competing at the state tournament each year. During his junior and senior years, he was president of his school's Science Olympiad organization and was involved in many endeavors including founding a Science Olympiad summer camp, organizing the team's first tryouts, and planning the inaugural Interlake Invitational.
After graduating high school, bernard attended the University of Washington (UW) in Seattle, WA, where he earned his B.S. in Bioengineering. While at the UW, he co-founded Science Olympiad at the University of Washington with Metasepia_pfefferi which from 2017–2019 hosted regional tournaments for Washington State's Northwest region.
Bernard is currently a medical student at the Yale School of Medicine in New Haven, CT, where he helps supervise events for the Yale Invitational and other invitationals in the Northeast. He is the current Chair of the Washington Science Olympiad Board of Directors, having previously served as Tournament Director for Washington's regional and state tournaments during the 2022 season. Bernard also served on Caltech's National Tournament Committee, where he designed the tournament website, and he also designed the website for the BirdSO Invitational.
Bernard joined Scioly.org's staff in May 2015, becoming lead administrator in November 2015. Since 2016, bernard has also served on the national Technology & Engineering Rules Committee, and since 2022, he has worked with the Life, Personal, & Social Science Committee, helping supervise or assist with various events at the national level.

Server cleanup: updating code around the site to reference the same templates for consistency and easier maintenance; making the site experience more cohesive, e.g. referencing the same styling and navigation bar across all pages, making logins redirect to original application (September 2018–Present)

Editing the Wiki, focusing on page cleanups and creating missing pages such as Digital Structures and SkyCiv (February 2014–Present)

Improving site SEO and updating page meta tags so that social media thumbnails are page-specific, e.g. when linked in Facebook or Discord
Rewriting SSSS to be a subapplication of the Test Exchange to carry over Test Exchange upgrades and allow easier SSSS file migration to the public Test Exchange (April 2021)
Rewriting Prediction Contest (scioly.org/fantasy) with a more intuitive staff-end UI (e.g. setting events, tournaments, dates) and cached results for faster load times (April 2021)
