Wallenpaupack Area High School, located on Lake Wallenpaupack's rugged shores of Hawley, Pennsylvania, is one of the oldest programs in Pennsylvania. They compete in the Northeast region of Pennsylvania, and qualified for the first two National Tournaments.

History

20th Century

Wallenpaupack's program competed in the inaugural 1985 season of Pennsylvania Science Olympiad, and were immediately one of the top teams. They placed 2nd in the first two state tournaments, qualifying for the National Tournament both years. They earned a 23rd-place finish at the 1985 National Tournament, and a 25th-place finish at the 1986 National Tournament.

After 1986, Wallenpaupack was unable to return to Nationals, but they regularly placed well enough to qualify for States. From 1987 to 2000, Wallenpaupack qualified for states in a majority of years, with 1998 being the only known year in which they missed (1993 and 1995 are also possible).

21st Century

From 2001 to 2007, the team had fallen short of making the cut for States, but in 2008 Wallenpaupack returned to States and earned a respectable 23rd-place finish. Aside from a brief period in the mid-2010s and the COVID-shortened season, Wallenpaupack qualified for States every season from 2008 to 2021. Their best year during this time was 2009, wherein they finished 3rd at Regionals and 20th at States.

In 2022, Wallenpaupack was only one place and eight points away from making States. In 2023, they returned to States after a 6th-place finish at Regionals, and then placed 28th. This is their most recent appearance at States, as they placed outside the top 10 at Regionals in 2024 and 2025.
