Park Forest Middle School is the home of a Pennsylvania Division B Science Olympiad team in the State College School District. They currently compete in the Central region of Pennsylvania, although they have competed in the Central East region, Northwest region, and Northeast region in their history. They have steadily placed in the top 10 in the state for the past few years.
Park Forest has a rivalry with Mount Nittany Middle School, since both of them are located in State College. They both feed into State College Area High School. The are also the two schools that resulted from the split of State College Junior High School, which was a nationally-prominent team that won two national titles. Park Forest occupies the same school building as the old State College Junior High.
Park Forest finished in 7th place at the state tournament every from 2014 to 2017 (sometimes called "the S7reak").
