The Japanese International Team represents Japan at Science Olympiad national tournaments. They compete in select events alongside their U.S. competitors as unranked, honorary guest competitors.
History
Dr. Gerard Putz and Jim Woodland, two Science Olympiad executive board members, traveled to Tokyo in 2009. They presented the concepts and principles of Science Olympiad to officials at the Ministry of Education (MEXT) and the Japan Science and Technology Agency (JST) at "Science Agora". Every year since 2012, the winner of the Japan High School Science Championships (JHSSC) has been invited to the Science Olympiad National Tournament in the United States; the team competes as honorary, unranked guests (typically in Division C, but sometimes in both divisions). Typically, the team's ranks in each of the events they competed in is announced during the awards ceremony, and their team members are each presented with medallions commemorating their achievements.
