This is Forest Hills Central High School's Action Sequence List from MI State 2018. The device was constructed by users Tesel and Rezalis. Included are photos and detailed build/code information about each task.

The device scored 1st place at the MI State competition. The score was ~1505 points with a target time of 67 seconds. The device completed all tasks, measured at 30 by 30.5 by 31 cm, and ran for 105 seconds with a chemical timer of 90 seconds.

Action Sequence List
Step # Action Description Task # Points
1 Magnet is pulled away from side of device. Hex nut drops onto 1st class lever. Start 100
2 1st class lever is attached to 2nd class lever, which is attached to 3rd class lever. 3rd class lever strikes microswitch. 9 50
3 Microswitch triggers arduino, which powers electromagnet. 12 50
4 Hall effect sensor detects magnetic field and sends data to arduino, which powers G12 halogen bulb for 1 second. Halogen bulb produces heat (exothermic) and light, which activates a photocell. 3 50
5 Photocell sends output data to arduino, which powers an LED for 1 second. LED produces light, which activates a different photocell. 6 50
6 Photocell sends output data to arduino, which powers an infrared LED with a pulsing 34 kHz signal. IR beam transmits signal to IR sensor over 20 cm away. 5 50
7 Data from IR sensor triggers arduino, which powers motor. Motor winds a string through a pulley system with IMA 0.5. Pulley system lifts a 500g mass, which triggers a microswitch after travelling 10 cm. 8 50
8 Microswitch triggers arduino, which powers another motor. Motor winds a string through a pulley system with IMA 7. Pulley system lifts another 500g mass, which triggers another microswitch after travelling 10 cm. 7 50
9 Microswitch triggers arduino, which powers a servo. Servo pushes an unmodified US quarter airborne off a ledge. Quarter strikes a piece of aluminum foil. 10 50
10 Aluminum foil connects with another piece of foil, completing a circuit. Completed circuit triggers arduino, which powers 40W electric heater inside ¼” compression fitting. Gas inside the fitting expands due to the increase in temperature, forcing water out of a capillary tube. Water drops onto a water sensor. 11 50
11 Water sensor sends output data to arduino, which powers servo. Servo pours a container of ice slush into a different container. Ice slush begins to melt, absorbing energy from a temperature sensor. Temperature sensor triggers arduino due to the reduction in temperature. 2 50
12 Arduino powers servo, which flips a sealed container and allows alka seltzer tablet to fall into water.
13 The alka seltzer tablet dissolves in the water, allowing citric acid and sodium bicarbonate to react. The reaction produces carbon dioxide, which slowly inflates a balloon. Once the balloon is inflated, it strikes a piece of aluminum foil. 1 50
14 Aluminum foil connects with another piece of foil, completing a circuit. Completed circuit triggers arduino, which powers a pump. Pump adds water to a closed container, which completes an electric circuit between two wires. 4 50
15 Completed circuit triggers a speaker to play the message “The End”. Final 250
