it's great to see someone else in Virginia! (I attended the Charlottesville Regional this year as well!) uhh also do you compete in forestry by any chance -onshape

I compete in Forestry, yes. Which school and team are you (since I went to Charlottesville Regional as well)? Also, could you link your userpage so we could talk? - Nerdi/Thenerdicat

Charlottesville High School itself. This is my first year of scioly. We're not particularly successful but we're all completely passionate about it and simply don't try (hopefully next year, that 22nd in chem lab is notable lol). Here's a link to my userpage: https://scioly.org/wiki/index.php/User:Onshape -onshape

Ah, Charlottesville. It's your first year? Not bad, not bad. How is scioly treating you? Also, it's great to hear that you guys are passionate about scioly, Oakton really isn't (despite what I've been trying) so best of luck next year! - Thenerdicat

Yeah. I'm enjoying scioly, but I hate virtual test days (good thing that we're returning to fully in person next year.) I think our problem is that our team has 8 people, and only 3 of us have actually done scioly in the past, so we're all super unexperienced. Good luck to you next year too! Good to hear that you're enjoying scioly! Yeah, virtual kind of sucks but like Scilympiad has grown on me lol. Your team only has 8 people? Wow, kudos to you guys. Best of luck next year! Feel free to ask me for scioly advice if needed :D - Thenerdicat

HI NERDIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIII I'M BOREDDDDD no way you like scilympiad??? have you tried taking code on scilympiad it crushes my soul-pumptato

PUMPTATO!!!!!!! I don't "like" like Scilympiad in the sense that it's my favorite thing to ever happen to SciOly but I've been so accustomed to it (I literally started competing in it when it was virtual year LOL) as a competitor and ES so it does hold a place in my heart. Or I'm just convincing myself that I like the site when it's just the fact that the very interface is burned in my head. I could literally close my eyes and see the orange interface in my head, and all the memories of inserting tests/grading/talking to ESes to resolve out of browser issues/competing come flooding back and it's ugh, just so nostalgic. Taking code on Scilympiad sounds like a nightmare LOL. Man, Scilympiad isn't even tailored to even written events and ughhh they need to update the site at least once instead of keeping that ugly orange theme or I will go insane :sob: - Thenerdicat

Correction: no way you like scilympiad?? Have you tried widi on scilympiad it crushes my soul -Onshape (talk) 00:39, 31 May 2023 (UTC)Reply

Never did widdy griddy (WIDI) :sob:. Scilympiad's hella outdated and imo not tailored at all to events that aren't just plain written tests. Unfortunately, it is the best site we have so far for online/satellite comps so I guess we'll have to make do with what we have :sob: - Thenerdicat

Oh my griddy god nerdi I can relate cause I've got like the puzzlebaron(cryptograms my beloved) leaderboard and results page burned into my retinas. I'm not gonna lie they really should've continued using Toebes' sites instead of Scilympiad... I liked it a lot more(ctrl f my beloved) -mourning the loss of toebes, pumptato

Oh my god the website interface burning into peripheral vision is too relatable, huh? :sob: Please do tell me more about this Toebes' site, I love Ctrl + F and I never understood why it would necessarily trigger the time out of browser counter (it made ESing so painful istg) D: I too, mourn the loss of Toebes, then. - Thenerdicat

Toebes is amazing because you used to be able to take interactive tests on there and there was no OOB time(hehehee unlimited ctrl f) and since I'm usually the one earning the most points I main aristocrats. Ctrl+f saves a lot of time cause you don't have to look for every individual letter(let's say X maps to C. just ctrl+f and look for x, and fill in C instead of having to find every single x if that makes sense). And as someone who relies on the timed bonus and speed to medal alone... well Scilympiad isn't great. Hopefully that somewhat makes sense ? c: -pumptato who didn't medal in a single code test this year </3 wait no there was regionals ew

Oh ewwwwww yeah Scilympiad really is untailored to Code, huh? I think it's more of an issue of *what* triggers the TOB counter because TOB is still somewhat important in counting towards finding cheating...but then again TOB counter is glitchy and not a surefire way to sus out cheating. Scilympiad really sounds untailored to code </3 you're working with what you have (which is from what I heard NOT the most collaborative/helpful team members) so don't blame yourself </3 - Thenerdicat

ahh ty c: I mean to be fair code was never meant to a) be soloed and b) use technology such as ctrl+f. At least, that's my interpretation. I guess the biggest thing isn't even ctrl+f.. it's that you have to click on a certain spot in the box to fill out each letter. It takes 2x the time for me because if you click the edge/too close to the edge.. well Scilympiad doesn't let you input stuff :skull: -pumptato is currently grinding her way to t10 in puzzlebaron. 2024 redemption

Aaaaaaaa that's unfortunate :c. You will be able to grind to redemptation!!!! #pumptato2024coderedemption - Thenerdicat

<333 tyyy I WILL REDEEM MYSELF WATCH OUT NEXT YEAR >:C-pumptato is still kinda crap at puzzlebaron but itll get better it must get better i still have not don emy summer homewokr god help me

I will be sure to watch for pumptato sweeping code (and scrambler eggs and alternate right stuff) next year!!! It'll take a while and I'm sure with your grinding, you'll get there! Also dw too much about summer homework, take it slowly and remember, take the APUSH before the APUSH takes you. Good luck!!! - Thenerdicat

tysm :) i finally started my apush work LOL! feeling a bit better and im getting things done now(shocking really not a normal occurrence)-academic weapon pumptato

Omg pumptato on the grindset??? W!!!!! Glad to see you're doing better now!!!! Pumptato academic weapon will be a menace above all!!!!! - Thenerdicat

Great job on SEC forestry! It's my favorite event and I had such a hard time on that test ... the Charlottesville Regional was pretty easy with all those distinct trees and I have no clue on fire ecology. Good luck for the 2024 season! -onshape

Thank you!!!! Forestry has been growing on me...but like I still think it ties with Disease Detectives/bio events and Dynamic Planet (despite the flaws for aforementioned events). I really couldn't decide. Me personally the Charlottesville Regional test could've been...erm, improved. There's a lot I wish that could've been changed with the regs test, and that mostly involves not pulling pictures from Google (lol) and asking more conceptual-related questions (though the pictures were mostly distinctive)! I do totally understand that the writers probably didn't have actual event experience given Forestry was literally defrosted from 2014 to be used this season (lol) so I can def forgive them for that. SEC Forestry...I loved it, honestly. Like, I loved the incorporation of more concept-based questions (and a more equal balance of ID vs questions about specimens vs conceptual stuff in general) because it's not done enough in tests and this test sets an example of everything!!!! I'm biased because I love forest management/fire ecology but I do understand that finding sources for this stuff is a bit difficult...I do recommend you looking through USDA articles of specimens and from there it'll probably pull you into the specifics and concepts of this event!!! I will say, I do think the test *could've* been shortened but I'm probably salty because I did this at 11 PM a day before the deadline, was half asleep, and barely referenced the binder (oh well). Thanks once again, and good luck to you next season as well!!! I hope we can meet next year at regionals (I hear it'll be in person), and sorry for the late response!! Take care!!! - Thenerdicat

im bored i dont wanna do my hw so im here friendly reminder that nordi is the forizz god  caffeine is great guys i like frappes mostly cause sugar how bout u -pumptato is gonna go do hw now holy moly

HIIII NERDI idk if youll ever see this but ur literally the forizz goat ahhhhh <3 -rooni

nerdi's so good at forestry she's the reason i gave up on my states forestry top 3 ambition -onshape

holy flying crickets HI NERDI AND ROONI AND ONSHAPE!!! thank uuuu i'm actually doing apush rn lol it's a neverending stream of homework sometimes... its okay though winter break is so close. i can't believe ive been in school for two months oh and roonis so real for that ur so cracked nordi. onshape nerdis good but top 3 means top three not top one :) i don't see why you have to give up on anything

yeah but that's considering wt woodson and tj that's really tough competition!! -onshape

not rly they always look better than they actually are. like, the best school in my state flattened tj at nats and tbh idt va is that competitive compared to cali/ny. im in nc and it rly isnt that bad like its reasonable to place t5 here -pumptato
