Thoughts about 23-24

In this section, I will share some of my opinions on the tournaments I have participated in during the 2023-2024 season.

RSI Science Showdown

Disclaimer: This is not an official tournament but more of a fun, unofficial contest to promote competition. All Sierra Vista students participated in this tournament, the tests were well written and gave me a sense of what to expect further in the season. I also got a 2nd place in Codebusters, my first medal in the year! This "tournament" was one of the biggest motivating factors towards future tournaments.

Sierra Vista Scrimmage

Our own Scrimmage was a pretty cool one! We were competing individually as the coaches collected data on our results. Tests were OK and we got to celebrate with a team photo and a tasty toast at a restaurant where the awards are held.

Highlands Scrimmage

Highlands was supposed to be a tune up for SV scrimmage, but it got postponed, so we ended up doing it a bit later than SV Scrimmage. It was my first online tournament, and the Scilympiad format was pretty funky. Therefore, my performance was majorly infringed. However, from this tournament on, I began to familiarize myself with the online formatting. However, the length of the road test was very long (way longer than I have ever seen before) and I only finished 2/3 of the questions on the test.

OCSA (JOKRS) Scrimmage

This tournament was one of the happiest days of my life because of my achievements in this tournament. I also saw many of my old friends in other schools like Rancho San Joaquin and Jeffrey Trail. The long code test challenged me in this tournament.

Georgia Scrimmage

Georgia Scrimmage was pretty much forgotten because it was pretty irrelevant and not memorable to Sierra Vista. Tests were pretty mid and I was looking forward to having a partner in the next tournaments.

Rickards Invitational

This was the first tournament in which was an actual Invitational and not a scrimmage. Additionally, we were assigned partners and we were all very excited. Our school, however, did not perform as we wished we had. This tournament was "an embarrassment", and it was one of the few tournaments I did a trial event in (trial events at Rickards were pretty funny). The most iconic thing about Rickards was probably the rickrolls though.

Dodgen-Walton Invitational

I didn't go to this Invitational as we had some conflicts. Overall results turned out pretty good, and the people who competed were mostly proud of their results :).

Bay Academy Invitational

This was a small mini just to keep us tuned for Camas coming up, along with two other satellites. I didn't attend, as there were only three teams and the teams were pretty much the same as Dodgen. This was arguably the most forgotten tournament we attended in the 23-24 season.

Dick Smith Invitational/Boyceville Invitational

I didn't attend DSI either :| but Boyceville was tuning up for Camas. Camas Invitational was a pretty well run tournament, and I had to agree that Boyceville helped as a warm-up.

Camas Invitational

Leading up to this point, our coaches never really stacked the teams completely, so we got pretty evened out results. The road test was pretty unique to me at that point, with a math drawing long as heck! This was also my first out of state tournament too, so I felt pretty different on the plane and heading towards Washington.

Rustin Invitational

This was a satellite run mid-winter near our winter break. Pretty much nothing else to say.

Troy Invitational

The first time our teams were completely stacking, I was on the secondary team. Wheeled Vehicle was pretty well set up and the proctors were nice. Tournament was very well run. The road test was probably the best road test we've seen, and the code test was also great.

Bird SO Invitational

This tournament conflicted with the Mira Loma Invitational, but we chose Bird SO. We carried home a first place trophy and a very dominant win.
