General Information

I am a Division B participant. I live somewhere in the Virgo Supercluster and compete for Design 39 in the state of California for the San Diego Regional and SoCal state. I have been on the science olympiad team for 2 years, and am on my 3rd year. My passions include: Astrophysics/Astronomy, Environmental Science, Tennis, Running, Coding, Yoga etc. My favorite event is Solar System. I have been competing in science olympiad since 4th grade (because the school allows me to).

Entry 1 - August 21st, 2022

My first year was a disaster. I only participated in 1 event for the regionals, and 2 for state. In my regional event, meteorology, my placed 27th, while in state he placed 26th in Reach For The Stars and Meteorology. The school did not do that well overall either. There were very few coaches, and the coaches were not of high quality.

My second year was a lot better. My dad decided to coach Solar System, Green Generation, and help the head coach out. We had many more coaches, and the students were more interested. We also got better participation. In the regionals, I scored 3rd in Solar System, 3rd in Meteorology, and 6th in Green Generation. This made me instantly popular among my friends. I was probably the Design 39's best Science Olympiad student. In state, results were not as good as I hoped, but I still did pretty good, getting 2nd place in Solar System. This to date remains my biggest achievement in Science Olympiad.

My goals for the next year include getting 3-4 regional medals, and at least 2 state medals. I would also like to get 1st place in one regional event and 1 state event. I am still deciding on what events to take, but will take Solar System, and Green Generation. But most importantly, my goal is to learn something, or rather a lot of new things.

Entry 2 - January 16th, 2023

Today am writing as I look forward the regionals in around in 1 and a half months. I am insanely busy these days with a lot of math contests. I have been enjoying science olympiad this year. I am taking Solar System, Green Generation, Fast Facts, and Road Scholar this year. The crunch time has started and hopefully I can learn a lot.

This is also my first year in middle school, and hopefully I can skim away with straight A+'s by the end of the semester, which is around the last week of January.

Best of luck to everyone with their tournaments!

Entry 3 - February 7th, 2023

I’m pretty busy these days, with lots to do. I have to finish the cheat sheets for Solar System and Green Generation, as well as a binder for Road Scholar. Not to mention 20+ more categories to memorize for Fast Facts.

I’m keeping my fingers crossed and hoping that I do well at the regionals. I keep having dreams of doing bad, so hopefully those dreams go that way. “If you can dream it, you can do it,” as Walt Disney said.

Good luck to everyone for regionals!

Entry 4 - March 5th, 2023

Yesterday I had the San Diego regionals. I got 4 medals, 2nd in Road Scholar, 4th in Solar System, 5th in Green Generation, and 5th in Fast Facts.

Our school barely made it to state by placing 8th. I've got the state tournament on April 8th. Good luck to everybody!

Entry 5 - March 30th, 2023

The state tournament is on April 8th in SoCal. I'm looking forward to it, and am pretty satisfied with my preparations. I don't have much more to add. The most confident event of mine seems to be Green Generation. I think I need to do more memorization for Fast Facts. Road Scholar and Solar System are going along averagely. Hopefully I can get a couple of medals at state!

Entry 6 - April 13th, 2023

I finished the state tournament a couple of days ago. In the state tournament, our team improved their rank by eight places as compared to last year, placing 16th, an all-time high for D39C. We won medals in 5 events, and I won 4 medals! I got 5th in Solar System, 5th in Fast Facts, 6th in Green Generation, and 6th in Road Scholar.

Green Generation and Fast Facts were really tough, and I wasn't expecting to be medaled in them (well, I thought I had some chances in Fast Facts, as everybody said it was impossible). Solar System was easy but we went in with a bad strategy and had to leave some questions unfinished. Otherwise, we could have easily gotten in the top 3. Road Scholar was easy, but I guess it was very competitive, so we only got 6th.

Next year, I hope to get 1st place in an event, and that is my main goal. I will only likely compete in 3 events next year, because I will be taking another time-consuming extracurricular activity.

Entry 7 - February 26th, 2024

The San Diego Regionals just finished two days ago. I won 3 medals - in Reach For The Stars (7th), Ecology (7th), and Meteorology (2nd!). I also participated in Road Scholar - and I was thrown in a few weeks before the regionals. I got 11th in Road Scholar :(. Just missed out on a medal!

Overall I learned a lot this year. I'm glad my team is moving to states, and I am really looking forward to it.

I felt this year's regionals was more competitive and many teams improved significantly. Quite shocked to see that Carmel Valley Middle School isn't going to states though!

To date, my only friend on scioly is D39HP11. He also competes for design 39 in science olympiad. He is a great person and check him out!
