Hey I'm Claso, someone from Solon High School. As of now it's 6/5/24 and I'm really bored so I guess it's time to yapp and reflect on this season and the previous ones. As of now my favorite events are probably Entomology, Forestry, Microbe, and Code. I also do other events but lowkey sold hard on them.
Nationals 22'
This went good despite me being extremley nervous. I did pretty bad on the digital structures test because the 4 loading areas were at different heights which I only practied like 2-3 days before. Didn't get the best score like usual but at least I placed.

Boyceville
Not the best online competition for me, I was able to medal in one event others not so much. I honestly was not prepared for the first online invite of the year

This started out pretty hot for me (as the first in person invitational), I honestly didn't realize I would get first for these events, but these drove my passion to get better throughout the entire season. Forestry and Code did well.. not so much about Storm, because someone "cough cough" didn't read the rules clearly, so I had to make a 5 minute craft move before my turn for the build event and somewhat saved it. I guess??

This was also another mid in person competition for me, it was decent but I kind of got angry with myself about not doing good enough in Forestry. I was also a bit proud of myself for actually placing in Storm The Castle with my own build, so that was kind of a highlight.

This Invitational went decent for me, also raged a bit about my Forestry placement. Funny story, I accidentally thought it was Forestry but they said Flight, and our Flight got 3rd so I accidentally thought I got 3rd in Forestry which made me depressed, but silly me hahah. Could've done better, but at least it didn't go that bad since my binder broke halfway through the test. I also was not prepared for the harder in person ID, someone was a bit stupid and didn't realize that some event supervisors actually have tree samples... And there was some questionable trivia on the test. Code went very well, despite my partner coming from flight last second, which was a bit nerve wrecking. Solar went okay, the test was pretty easy but I could've explained more on some questions I wasn't exactly sure on.

YESS... erhmm nvmm ignore that. Anyways suprising thing that Kennedy came over for this competition, only just to look at our own Solon stats and getting 13th... I wasn't expecting to get first in codebusters because it went extremely bad. The test didn't have a lot of aristocrats and had some questionable questions on baconian and other stuff. The timed cipher was the worst, we took 5 minutes... I think it was something about Sonic, and they didn't even have a porta table on the reference sheet from what I remember. Luckily my last second morse solve led us to first place. Forestry was just like Sylvania LMAOO, they obviously did this test last second and just switched up questions and answers, the beginning part was a breeze but I kinda of struggled with compound leaf stuff as it went on.

This competition went well for all my events, but Storm we had some accidents with energy violation which I should've spotted out before the competition. We did good in the shots, and would've gotten first if it wasn't for the DQ. Forestry was a bit harder and I had NO IDEA ABOUT FLOWER ANATOMY, so I had to use my interpretation of the images on my binder lol. Codebusters went well and we did all questions except for 4! Which made me very excited before my Forestry event block. We beat second place team in codebusters by a whopping 2,000 points.

UMSO
I sadly didn't go to this competition, it seemed fun and I would get to see how good the Michigan teams were. I really wanted to go to this overnight competition, but sadly I had mathcounts chapter competition that day, which was not fun...
West-Liberty Salem
This competition was really wacky for me, and my worst competition this entire season. This school was in the middle of now where for real, and like was a literal farm school. The award ceremony was epic and it was fun seeing solon representatives getting lots of candy and playing other fun games. Probably the best award ceremony and I didn't have to sit and wait for 1 hour just for the ceremony to begin. Me personally I didn't have good sleep the night before and was stressed since I had a alternate for code last second. Then I realized Mason was at this competition so I needed to do good. I sadly couldn't do Forestry and had to do Crave and Solar System instead since no one else on team B could do Crave, and I also had a alternate. Solar System went okay, but it seemed like the scores for it were really close. I was extremely confident on the first section, me and my partner may have messed up a bit on the venus albedo equation... and guessed but still got some points. There were also some images on the Solar test that I never looked at before so I also messed up on that. Crave The Wave... let's just say I botched the lab, if I didn't I couldve gotten +20 or 40 points I think and gotten top 2 at WLS. I honestly couldn't measure a simple angle of a laser for the test... The test was extremely easy and had some 7th grade science stuff I learned in it, the calculations were a bit questionable.

This was okay for me, personally not the best. I had to run 0.5 miles real quick to the gym and back before my Forestry event block because I kind of forgot to impound with my partner lol. Codebusters went really well, the test was a bit suspicious with only 15 questions, we did everything except for that weirdo patristocrat thingy, cuz it was weird. Forestry went kinda bad, cuz I didn't keep track of time and couldn't double check, and my adrenaline was still rushing from running that much. I was extremely confident but the hopes were crushed by Mason beating me. Storm went extremely bad, cuzz the grass in the gym wasn't even and me and my partner should've realized that but we didn't. We didn't throw as far as before, and it was a huge shock and we couldn't find the problem. The racquetball first of all was real goofy like bro, that isn't a actual verified racquetball get some actual racquetballs that people use to play it, and like the tennis ball was way too light, so yea. Goofy ahh storm at state but we still placed. Somehow.... I got boba at states :))), tasted real good, idk if it was cuz I was real hungry or I like boba.

Nationals
A huge suprise for me. Honestly I was extremely nervous on this day, but confident too. I didn't eat at all until after STC, my last event. I honestly didn't want to eat anything and didn't feel hungry at all, cuz I didn't wanna die on the day of nats and ruin my preparations I spent towards this. Forestry went well, but my hopes were low cuz like it seemed pretty easy so many teams could've done well too. This was the UMSO forestry test writer, and I encounted some of the questions on this test before, so that was good. Someone was grinding treebo last second in our event block which was extremely funny. Codebusters... We bombed let's just say that. I honestly should've wore earplugs to not hear any other teams, we could've got timed in 30 sec, but instead we got 2 min 30 sec cuz of our screwed up handwriting collectively. SDFJKSLJLaj;sfk ;sd. STC went nice, like extremely well. We adjusted easily and the trebuchet was very accurate. We got that dubbbb, but second place was kinda close so that was a bit scary... At nats I grinded like a lot of forestry cuz I wanted to do well. I got boba :))). I honestly wished I met more people and had more fun.

24' Season
Overall as I look back on this last year I had in Div B it was definetely a memorable one. I made much more bonds with many people especially with being the captain I got to help a lot of new students improve a lot and felt happy to see them succeed. This was definetely a more fun year as we went to many overnights and had many great sucesses as a team SECOND AT NATS!!! Which is a pretty impressive improvement from 4th at nats last year to 2nd, and I'm proud of how much our team has grown. It is sad to see many people leave but I hope I can still help continue the solon legacy.
So there's a lot of invitationals to cover so..... IDK feeling a bit lazy but I really am bored right now and feel like doing nothing else so oh well, and it's good to reflect and yapp on about everything as a personal journal. Unforunately I only probably got boba like 3 times entirely this season?? not at nats, though we went to that dairy store at MSU and just saying I got a extremely big scoop.
Boyceville
Lowkey was shocked about my placings both good and bad. Crime idk how we got first...gave a too big of a confidence boost least to say... Air trajectory was mid had a bad design with the ball and was like really tight on time, but somehow did okay, but it wasn't that competitive as it was the beginning of the season. Microbe kinda happy about it but I honestly didn't like losing to some sweaty california teams, and lowkey I was probably just really special at microbe (in a sped way) at the beginning of this year cause looking back at that test it was super free and I did it again later this year and got a 100! But code was kinda mid, the test was really easy like really short and we missed a super easy question so that dropped us down.

Similar to before, a chill comp, a bit worried about microbe but oh well. Air traj similar to STC from last year didn't go well.. but it's the lessons we've learned right? Codebusters was also chill, we were so close to finishing the entire test! Lowkey this was the first in person invite and it was probably one of the most nostalgic things I will remember to this day, the bus ride, the people, the food :), the memories. Also my sister a 6th grader did pretty well too and I was proud of her!

This was a pretty easy competition not much people here, and I did better than expected. The team did well overall which I was happy and first sighting of Mason! Had a lot of fun this invy, esp with it being overnight. But the internet there was horrible so I couldn't study for my events and had to just do some tests I brought. And what was interesting was that I could've got 5 1st places, if we moved the block in wheeled and didn't get a dq :(((((. We actually clutched up so hard, since the dude (CRACKED AF) who was doing it had covid, so he gave us his build and we just used his calibrations, our aiming was really bad the first time... but the second time I used my eyes and actually got 4.7 cm or smth like that away from the target! Along with getting a really good can score since it was like 30 cm or smth?? idr lol it was a while back. After that we got some yummy food at polaris, and had a good time coming back on the bus.

Uhhh, lowkey this was a really close invitational to Solon so I don't really remember much other than my bestie singing a song at Kenston's scioly talent show for me :)))) that was fun. We played some 3008 on roblox, but I gave up and listened to music or something?? Kinda a bad invitational for me since I wasn't put into too much events and drafted into roller with my sister which we didn't do so hot in. But otherwise it was okay I guess and I gained more motivation to study for mm since I got 2nd :(( but to be fair it was a reused test and kinda didn't follow the rules so... My sister was also drafted into code with me, which we got that FIRST DUBZZZ.

Yea, just spent a day compoeting for this, nothing too memorable. The tests were okay? I lowkey kinda forgot about this, and we didn't do too good, got beat by 2 unstacked sv teams.... I guess us getting 3rd in code was kinda memorable, because I hadn't done too hot at boyceville, but I think what carried us was the 69420 number guess which was close to the tiebreaker number so we got 400 points! We also didn't do too hot in crime :( which should've probably been my wakeup call to actually start studying for it instead of just not studying it at all the entire season..Repeated microbe just like all previous online competitions 4th again!! YIPPEE, but the start of my villain grind arc, jk I never really studied microbe truly.

Another fun overnight invitational! A orlando team came over, and there was this magic show guy who was interesting least to say. Another mason sighting! But unfortunately didn't get to meet anyone this time. Air trajectory was lowkey kinda okay, didn't sell too hard, especially with this new device being made like a week prior to the comp, and me being placed with a alternate, and along with the really complictaed aiming system which didn't really have to be that complicated but I procrasinated so what can I say?? Microbe was alright, the calculations were kinda goofy, but overall was simple but had some questions outside of the rules which I don't like :((((, and reused the Harvard mm test if I remember correctly. Crime was the nats es for forensics, was pretty simple but we missed a few easy points :(((((. Code was pretty simple too we could've done better but oh well, the other team accidentally tooked the test outside of the es's room without realizing.... but they got it back without any dq!

Where do I even start with this. Many teams came over which were exciting, but some beef went down... not name dropping. I thought it went okay... but not the best I've done. I didn't eat much since I was a nervous wreck with all the teams coming, and I was sweating microbe the day of, only to get beat by both Springhouse teams badly :((((((( which was very sad and probably the worst I've done in microbe all season. Code I thought we did decent on, and finished everything except 1 question? We kinda sold on time but that was alright. And crime... went horrible, easy test but I was all over the place since I'm really bad at staying organized for crime and just keeping my calm and timing myself so that didn't go too well. At least we got 1st at our home competition! Against a lot of competitive teams at the end of the day, and being unstacked which was a huge w for us.

I don't know how I managed to place in all my events... It was okay, the microbe mission test was another level, but was pretty good, and if I watched some more yt shorts... I could've gotten the tiebreaker question about the bacteria in the icy ground in someplace Norway... But that should've been self intuitive. Again kinda sad about microbe since I had some allergies so I couldn't think clearly and also really sold on the easiest genetic questions ever, all because I was being special during that test. Crime had a lot of trivia which for the most part I knew, and I honestly didn't know how to write a good crime analysis since there wasn't much. And lowkey I think the es definetely gave up... because in his answer key he said IDK anymore for the analysis :\, that's how you really know someone is probably sleep deprived and doesn't wanna grade like 160 something crime analysis'. Air trajectory went well, but that wasn't my build, code went okay the test was similar to last year with most questions being okay level, and some decently hard ones that I couldn't get a breakthrough on. And again no fractionated morse tables :(((((((((((( as for any online test there was.

UMSO + WLS + Regionals
Nothing much to say about these. Unforunately we discontinued UMSO since it was too far and it didn't feel worth it, and some things went down at the hotel near there... WLS I coudln't go cuz of OMEA :(((( but at least I got to go to CWRU that day to get some inspo for my air trajectory.
I don't really want to reflect on regionals because there wasn't much to talk about, we had some fun going to CVS and buying stuff but I was really broke so I got nothing, and we had a fun team bonding time playing outside. I also played basketball with some WLS people and actually made a shot! I was def super super super cracked, and somehow blocked a really tall kid since I'm just that good. And also air trajectory didn't do really hot... messed up my angle changes for the bucket shot... Oh yea and crime didn't go to hot, probably because again I don't study for this event and never really prepared for it.
States
Went okay, light work no reaction. Everything was still super easy, I definetely should've continued preparing instead of chilling. The whole team was decked out in blue sunglasses with that drip. Competition day was lowkey fun, air trajectory went much better compared to regionals, and we did pretty well considering the work we put into it. Microbe was extremely light, took 5 minutes to complete and we triple checked and left with 30 minutes remaining, since we didn't feel like checking over stuff. Codebusters we finished everything?? I honestly don't remember, I think we did and we got an okay timed. Crimebusters I think the only reason we got 1st was cuz I knew the chem equations from honors chem.. again not a good thing getting 1st as it caused me to chill too much and forget this event existed. Because if I'm being real I actually never studied it at all this season, only looked at it a few times for like 5 minutes.

I'm not typing anymore I think I've yapped for too long so bye bye. I'll probably come back to this later. But I can say one thing for sure I really regretted bombing crime hard time, and not studying or preparing for it :(((, that's my biggest regret of nats. At least comeback in code? No selling this time. Kinda happy about Microbe since I didn't get 1st at any online invitationals at all this year. I only started studying it actually 2 days before nats, before I basically forgot what I studied. Code I was worried since I was doing worse than usual somehow I think we might've got like the 2nd lowest timed? around like 3 minutes. This nats was something special especially with it being my last year of div b, had lots of fun moments and stuff. This year nats was extremely fun with the campus and the competition environment MSU set up, even though this trip wasn't as long as last years nats it was still fun exploring everything. I'm also proud about our teams big improvement from 4th last year to 2nd at nats this year, 1st place being close to the grasp of our hands.
