Pleasant Ridge Middle School is a Division B team that competes in the Northeast Kansas Regional in the state of Kansas. The PRMS Science Olympiad club started during the 2016-2017 season. Students from PRMS move on to Blue Valley West for high school.
We, here at Pleasant Ridge Middle School, believe in the 'relentless pursuit of each person’s success', and have amazing coaches! Special thanks to the support from the school and wonderful staff for everything that they do for us! 2.
The following is a message from the team:
Good luck to all the competition out there and GO BULLDOGS!
P.S.
For future reference, according to Google, an "Unpleasant Ravine" is a a "deep, narrow gorge with steep sides causing discomfort, unhappiness, or revulsion; disagreeable", not a middle school in Kansas. Hope that helps! 😁

PRMS Eras
The Beginning [2017-2019]
Not much is known about this era, other than the fact that a few students and moms heard about SciOly through the grapevines, and the rest is history.
The Reign of Coach David Spieker [2020-2024]
This era is the best, and there are so many reasons as to why.
Notable Moments
2017 Season
This was the first year students from our school had competed in SciOly. Although the results weren't the best, it was an amazing start!
- PRMS SciOly was founded
2018 Season
The world moves on, and so does the team...
- PRMS SciOly is headed to the NATIONAL TOURNAMENT in their SECOND YEAR???!!!
2019 Season
After an amazing season at the time, everyone is ready to leave for the new season.
- They qualified for the national tournament, of course!
- Two students get FIRST PLACE AT THE NATIONAL TOURNAMENT IN DENSITY LAB!!!
2020 Season
This season needs no explanation...
- ....
2021 Season
2021 almost never happened, but was virtual, and the team did very well.
2022 Season
The team finally had in-person contests! It was so exciting for everyone involved!
- First in-person/state tournament in a while
- Team goes to Nationals
- Team gets 22nd, best in team history
2023 Season
One of the most prized moments of PRMS SciOly history was being able to host the 2023 Science Olympiad National Tournament, here in Kansas (*although technically not in the same city, it's close enough*). We loved it all from the STEM Explo to the Post-Closing Ceremony. Oh, and just for the record, Kansas isn't just a huge farm...
- At the 2023 Nationals, PRMS Students dressed up as characters from the Wizard of Oz, namely the Tin Man, the Wicked Witch of the West, Dorothy, and the Scarecrow for the Parade of the State
- Team gets 21st, best in team history
- 2nd place in GG at Nats
2024 Season
This year was amazing for PRMS, considering the majority of the team was very young (*cough* thanks to the class above leaving *cough*), and it was SOOO much FUNN NOT BEING IN KANSAS FOR THE NATIONAL TOURNAMENT for the first time since 2019. This was also the first year, students had participated in a competition outside of the state since 2020 (The Pembroke Hill Invitational was the first invitational this had happen).
- Riding the bus (thanks to Arrow Stage Lines) was the closest thing some students experienced to touching grass in their lives
- At the 2024 National Tournament, PRMS Students represented Swifties & the Kansas City Chiefs with, arguably, the most amazing outfits/theme in the nation
- Also at the 2024 Nationals, Oly4Life and his partner placed 2nd in Can't Judge a Powder, proceeding walking out of the test thinking they would get last place
