Piqua High School [PHS] is a Division C team that competes in Ohio. The team was a part of Science Olympiad in the early years of the program, but participation waned occasionally through the 2000s and 2010s. The team was a perennial contender for the Ohio State Tournament every year since their inception (except 1998) until the spate of years where there was no team in the mid 2000s and 2010s. Part of that success was due to the strong program at the former Bennett Junior High School and the less successful team at Wilder Junior High School, prior to the two juniors merging into the current Piqua Junior High School [PJHS]. A lot of this was due to the coaching of Vicki Miller and her assistants, but as the Junior High program waned, so the high school team followed. Formerly the head coaches were chemistry teacher Dave Williams (19??-1996), biology teacher Bill Denlinger (1997-1998), middle school gifted teacher Mrs. Gillespie (1999-20??). The current head coach is by math teacher Brandon Lightle (20??-present). At times they have held an Invitational Competition. The Western Ohio Regional Tournament is held at PHS & PJHS.
