Kickapoo High School is a Division C team in the state of Missouri, competing in Region VII. The team has been on an upward performance trend recently, claiming a 1st place finish at the 2025 Southwest Missouri Regional, and a jump from a 15th place finish at the 2021 Missouri State Tournament to a 4th place finish at the 2025 Missouri State Tournament, it's highest ever finish at the state tournament.
Background
Kickapoo High School opened in 1971, making it the newest High School in the Springfield Public School District. It is also the largest high school in the district, with enrollment averaging 1,900-2,000 students. Kickapoo feeds primarily from Cherokee Middle School, but it also feeds from Carver Middle School. The school has a large AP and Honors class program which helps the Science Olympiad teams by giving the students more exposure to higher level science content.
Science Olympiad
Kickapoo High School has had a Science Olympiad team since at least 2001, and has competed every year since then. Kickapoo won the 2004 and 2025 Southwest Missouri Regional, which is the longest stint between regional wins for any school in Missouri's Region 7. Historically, the team usually consistently places around the top 5 at the regional tournament, and has appeared at the State Tournament intermittently with average results. However, the team is on a streak of qualifying for the State Tournament from 2019-2025 (including 2020), giving it 7 state tournament qualifications in a row, it's highest ever. In addition, performance at the state has increased in recent years, with it's highest ever finish at a Missouri State Tournament in 2025 with a 4th place finish.
