Pittsburgh Allderdice High School, otherwise known as Taylor Allderdice or simply Allderdice, was a Division C school. They regularly qualified for the Pennsylvania state competition at the Southwest Pennsylvania Regional competition, but have not competed since 2017.
History
Allderdice's participation in Science Olympiad dates back to when the Southwest and Northwest regions were combined as a single Western Regional. Their earliest confirmed participation was in 1991, where they finished 7th in the Western Regional and qualified for the state tournament.
During the 2000s and 2010s, Allderdice rarely failed to qualify for the state tournament. They had more 1st-place finishes at regionals (six) than missed qualifications for states (two known, three maximum). This includes a brief period in the early 2000s where Allderdice competed at the Northwest regional rather than the Southwest regional.
Despite qualifying for states and finishing with their highest placement in four years, Allderdice's final year of competition was 2017. With the expansion of the Pennsylvania Urban Initiative, and the commencement of programs at Brashear High School and Pittsburgh CAPA 6-12, the possibility for a return remains.
