Team History

Cumberland Valley has competed in Science Olympiad since 1986. They achieved success in the very early days of the Central Regional, earning a second-place finish in 1990 and a first-place finish in 1991. Although results from some years are unknown, Cumberland Valley earned at least seven top-3 finishes at the Central regional between 1990 and 2002. Their first known top-10 finish at the state tournament was a ninth-place finish in 2001.

In 2018, Cumberland Valley High School began competing in the Battle at Valley Forge Invitational and the MC Barons Invitational. In 2019, Cumberland Valley High School hosted the 1st Annual Eagle Invitational at Eagle View Middle School. In 2020, Cumberland Valley High School not only hosted the 2nd Annual Eagle Invitational (this time at the aforementioned Mountain View Middle School) but also started to attend the LISO and Solon Invitationals. In 2021, the school was able to attend many more invitationals due to the online format. These included BearSO, Belleville, Boycville, CMU, Solon, the newly created SOAPS, SOUP, and BirdSO.

The school earned their first ever state championship title in 2022 with a score of 110. Also, at the 2022 National Tournament, the team received the Science Olympiad Spirit Award and 20th place overall. In 2023, the team had their best ever showing at the PA state finals, earning a score of 88. However, they were edged out slightly by Lower Marion High School, who got a score of 85, for the second PA Nationals seat.
