Doppio-vinegar is a Senior who competes on the Hudsonville High School Science Olympiad Team. They have been part of the team since Freshman year. They compete in Build Events or Hybrid Events with building components.
Science Olympiad Involvement
Doppio-vinegar joined the Hudsonville High School Science Olympiad team their freshman year. The first year they competed, Covid-19 cancelled their regionals, so their first full year was 2020-2021.
Current Involvement
Doppio-vinegar is currently doing the Scrambler and Detector Building events in the 2022-2023 season. They also work to recruit new team members by advertising via their school's daily news broadcast Eagle Eye, which they are chief editor of.
Past Results
In the 2019-2020 and 2020-2021 seasons, Doppio-vinegar did decent overall. They competed in the Gravity Vehicle and Machines events, earning some 5th and 6th places for the Gravity Car, but nothing higher. They only participated in two events due to the extremely long time it took preparing for Gravity Vehicle, especially without a partner. They also struggled to build the compound lever for Machines, with friction leaving it inaccurate and randomly getting stuck. In the 2021-2022 season, they competed in the Gravity Vehicle, Detector Building, and Ping-Pong Parachute events. Despite never having done the event before, they were very successful in Detector Building, placing 1st at Regionals and 3rd at States. They also continued to do pretty well in Gravity Vehicle, this time alongside a partner. Both them and their partner made rockets for Ping-Pong Parachute, but only their partner's was used in competitions, as Doppio-vinegar did not have time to do enough rocket testing due to also building the salinity probe and car.

Favorite Events
Doppio-vinegar's favorite event is Detector Building as they love building circuits with Arduino and programming. They also have a soft spot for Gravity Vehicle despite not being very good at it. They prefer testing compared to building the car. They didn't like Ping-Pong Parachute as much in comparison. They are trying the Scrambler event for the 2022-2023 season.
Trivia
- They were the first person from Hudsonville to compete in the Gravity Vehicle event.
- Their ramp from the 2019-2020 and 2020-2021 seasons was memorable for the "Beware of Dog" sign located on it. The sign was intended to help the ramp level off to the floor as before it had a big drop. How effective this was is debatable.
- They once played the song Megalovania on their salinity probe for Detector Building. Unfortunately this feature was removed before any tournaments.
- Their bottle rocket for Ping-Pong Parachute was named "Pipis Rocket", after Pipis from Deltarune. This rocket was never used in competitions.
- The runner-up name was "[[BIG SHOT]]", which would have been much better honestly.
