Potions & Poisons

Post by JennJ »

I love that Texas offers trial events, but as a coach, I hate it at the same time!

Anyone have any resources for Potions & Poisons, in particular sources for tests?

TIA!

I have a hard copy sample test that I received at a clinic, but I don't know what I did with it! And, anyway, I wouldn't get too focused on having tests or not; they're rather simple to write. The reactions are basic chemistry only, so a regular level high school chemistry text would have plenty of examples if you prefer print. Barring that, there are a relatively infinite number of worksheets online on that. As for the poisons component, after performing the necessary research, the primary questions are "Where?", "When?", and "How?" in terms of toxicity. Those are easy to write, too. Additionally, because this event uniquely brings together chemistry and the biology ID that tends to be popular, I figure this site will proliferate with participant-written questions shortly into next season. That doesn't help for now, though.

Given limited time, it may be advantageous to assess the hard chemistry, "potions", material and primarily perform focused research on the "poisons" material.
