What cycles in for Green Gen next year?

For anything Science Olympiad-related that might not fall under a specific event or competition.

What cycles in for Green Gen next year? I believe its ecology, but wanted to confirm

Ecology, but I don't know what comes after ecology.

Yes, it is Ecology.

I think it's a 6yr rotation:
2016 Green Gen II
2017 Ecology I
2018 Ecology II
2019 Water Quality I
2020 Water Quality II
2021 Green Gen I

Granted, in 6yr, they could change their minds about that. :P On the other hand, it's a cute rotation scheme that they would need reason to change. I think it's nice that ecology (an oft-overlooked and disliked aspect of biology) basically gets a permanent seat in the rotation. It seems fair.

This is going to sound bad. But can someone explain the differences between Green Gen and Ecology. I looked over both in the wiki, but I am still a bit confused. The basic ecology principle section of Green Gen looks similar to that of ecology. Does ecology just go into more depth? I feel like I am missing something.

Not that I've officially done ecology, but ecology is more in depth for the topic ecology and is 100% ecology. Green gen is less in depth for ecology, and covers 33% ecology, 33% population problems (mining, desertification, etc.), and 33% resolving the problems (sustainability, legislation, bioremediation, etc.) with some energy sources added at the end.

Essentially the skillset for ecology/water q and green gen is essentially the same. Ecology is only about terrestrial biomes and basically covers everything from basic ecology to which species live in which biome to random facts about random biomes in the world. Ecology also has a bit of human impact on the biome. Water qual is basically aquatic biomes with more emphasis on human effects. Its like the pseudo-green gen event that preps the SciO world for green gen. Then you have green gen which is basically ecology and water qual combined and then some (laws) (Note by ecology and water qual combined I mean in terms of structure not necessarily content). IMO ecology is the easiest, water qual is mid, and green gen is the hardest.

Although I can't say for sure due to the fact that I've never done ecology, I would assume it would be much more in depth than part one of Green Gen, particularly with the biomes being focused on in each year.

As for that possible rotation scheme, I wouldn't exactly be too sure about that. Green Gen was specifically set up for a two-year rotation (as even stated explicitly in the rules). Prior to GG, Water Quality had a three-year run, and prior to that ecology had a...five-year run in Division B and six-year run in C (2006 had WQ in B and Eco in C; 2005 had WQ in B and neither in C). This all being said, the rotation is probably not that rigid and will be a bit unpredictable (especially due to the fact that these three events tend to be very interrelated).

Edit: have fun reading three responses, Fluorine...
