Most likely Seven Lakes and LASA will both be there, and Clements probably will as well (so that's the three major Texas schools). It's possible that some other competitive schools might go, but if you're going, those three are probably your main competition.

Can anyone explain to me why LASA didn't do very well overall? I have heard various rumors that the teams weren't "stacked" or that their "A" team did not compete, but I'm curious to get a real answer seeing as how they got 3rd at Nationals last year

Their best people did not compete at Cy-Falls. I think that as a school, they probably used Cy-Falls as some sort of tryout for newer students as opposed to a full-fledged competition with their stacked teams.

The LASA you see at MIT will probably be super super good like you (and everybody else) expect.

Yes this is right! Only 3 of the people who went to nationals (as a team member or as an alternate) competed at Cyfalls. A lot of Juniors and Seniors were missing (including myself) due to SAT. The LASA at MIT will be our stacked A team. Also is Seven Lakes stacking their A and B teams because last year they did not stack their teams.

What is the advantage to not stacking teams at invitationals?

It can be easier to rank people by ability, which is then used to form stacked teams. Generally, it levels the playing field a bit as the really good people are spread out the two teams.

Additionally, it allows people to experiment with new partners and events that normally wouldn't be able to do.

For instance, at Cy-Falls, I got do do Wind Power since I was on the different unstacked team as the other two good people. If we (SLHS) had a stacked team at Cy-Falls, I wouldn't have been able to do it (since the other two people are quite a bit better than me), so having unstacked teams allowed me to do an event just for fun that I could possibly do in the future

Basically it allows the team building decisions to be fair because if teams were stacked for Cy-Falls what would the teams be based upon? The captains can't write tests and just have early test-offs because of early college applications. Cy-Falls gives data which allows the stacked teams later on to be better. Even if all the A team people from the year before were put on the team, the events would be slightly different and there might be spots open. However the only problem with this method is that if there are no invitationals in December, those A team people can't compete until the stacked invitational.
