tryouts??
Re: tryouts??
we basiclly have the same, test, write it do it(writing and building), mystery arch. and for builders you just build something to the "rules" they give you, they usually use last year's rules.

Re: tryouts??
We dont really have tryouts but my coach watches the 60 or so members at meetings and notes who works hard in their events and who doesnt and who completely blows off meetings. That's how the team is picked. scichic34, i believe my team uses the EXACT same forms and reference sheets as you
My coach told us that he got them from your old coach

Re: tryouts??
50-60 people try out, the top 15 make the official team, the lower 8th graders are alternates, the next 15 (6th and 7th) are the JV team (which only goes to regionals).
so we had two tests every tuesday for i think 5 weeks (8 study events, wright stuff, and bridge), and each person gets scored on each.
the placing system is really weird; the top person gets 25 points, the second 24, all the way down to the 24th person gets 2 points, and everybody else gets only 1 point. the way you get onto varsity is either by consistently getting 15+, or doing some really bad, and then getting first in some other ones.

Re: tryouts??
For some events we do testing, like if more than two people are seriously working on it. But for others it's just obvious who should compete. Last year we had to do like 5 rounds of testing for Bio-process lab because we kept having ties.

Re: tryouts??
i wish we had to have tryouts, we usually try to get about 15 people just to join the club, once in a while we test for events if they are in dispute, but never to make the team, we almost never have more than 20 people who want to join, and usually a couple aren't really serious

Re: tryouts??
No tryouts for us. Usually our coaches know what we're good at, and whether we compete is determined by the events we want to do.

Re: tryouts??
I'm in the same boat as rocketman. We normally don't get more than 20 serious people. It would be nice to have more but then we would have to actually WORK most of the time.

Re: tryouts??
We don't really try out, the members sort of filter out. Sometimes we have "run-offs" for some events in which we have too many people.
