Chinook Helicopter Design
My partner and I have been researching the chinook design. But, we're just having trouble connecting the rubber bands to the duomotors. How do you use the rubber band so that It'd work?

Re: Chinook Helicopter Design
Other than for the fun of it, why would you bother?
The Chinook bonus only applied to last year.
This year 2013, no bonus exists

Re: Chinook Helicopter Design
If someone PMs me a reminder, I'll update the page to reflect that (along with typical spell/grammar check) later this weekend or early next week. I don't have time until then, however.isaysroar wrote:Wow! Thankyou for saving my time! I was reading through the scioly wiki rules this whole time. I''ll be checking the rules for this year.

Re: Chinook Helicopter Design
isnt the chinook design only for extra points for last year? i've heard its much harder to make than a typical helicopter made from a kit.

Re: Chinook Helicopter Design
For those asking for the best blade shape, what you see in that video is the 'theoretical' best elliptical blades I've mentioned. I will, however, note that the best student's Chinooks outflew Ron's and that's going some, Ron is a VERY good, no that's not strong enough, World Class builder/flyer with MANY years of experience.

Re: Chinook Helicopter Design
That was a beautiful flight, but I am still curious how Ron transfered the energy from the horizontal bands to the vertical prop shafts evenly.

Re: Chinook Helicopter Design
By winding extremely carefully and using decades of experience. He used essentially identical rubber bands on either side and wound them very similarly. Even with that, the downfall of his design was balancing torque/thrust. I never saw his helicopter come down straight, it always came down tumbling end over end.PHXcoach wrote:That was a beautiful flight, but I am still curious how Ron transfered the energy from the horizontal bands to the vertical prop shafts evenly.
