Hi everyone! I have competed in this event multiple times and just wanted to offer some tips for anyone just starting.
1. Research parts of the scientific method, these definitions are imperative for success in this event.
2. Have partners that you work well with, and designate one person as the leader, one person as the data person, and one person as the writer.
3. Go onto Soinc and find the test packet and get someone to make up some practice tests for you.
4. This is a great event to compete in if your school doesn't have a lot of resources! We won regionals by a large margin and got 9th in NC at states (even though the event supervisor gave us the wrong test, lol, they gave us one for division C while we were in division B.)
5. Have fun and enjoy this event, it's super fun!!!!

Here's some additional advice:
It's a common myth that the person who is the worst at the event should do the experiment. However, from experience, this leads to experiments that are slow and badly done, with no data. Instead, move that person to statistics (since that's a lot easier to each) and have someone (generally the second best) do the experiment.
