I'll miss Science Olympiad!!!

Post by EpicFailOlympian »

 Because of the bad economy, West Jr. High may not have a Science Olympiad team next year. There is a bill in Missouri to stop paying teachers for after school activities. It has passed the senate, and all it needs is to have the Governor sign it... Since the teachers aren't paid and they spend 120 hours helping in Science Olympiad they aren't willing to do it anymore... What about your school?

If I don't have Science Olympiad next year, hopefully I could convince my parents to move to PA or somewhere...

The same thing might be happening to us. Even though the Sci Oly team is the best team in the school. I believe there will be no cuts to sports teams, or to the principal's favorite clubs. Our administrators don't even pretend to listen to us (the students)...

That does really suck. If I was in the same state as you, I'd write to my senator because of that. But as education is based on state governments and I'm not in Missouri I can't do that.

Seriously, get a petition going around your school, tell kids involved in science Olympiad in other schools and urge them to do the same. Write letters to your senators. These things do make a difference.

This economy really isn't getting better; if you look at the facts it's getting worse. I'm really sorry.

Or better yet, get your parents to write, and coaches, and teachers, and neighbors, and grandparents...etc.

Cuz they can actually vote, ya know?

That's horrible! But don't give up yet, you still have you're right to petition. Like Random and a bunch of other people said, get Science Olympians from across the state to oppose the bill... and what winner said. Neighbors... friends... family... they can all help.

We just had a budget cut of 68% for our school. That's about a total loss of $5.6 million. Teachers are getting laid off. Parking prices for seniors are rising. People are getting demoted. The budget has already taken a toll on Science Olympiad this year. Our rulebooks weren't even glossy! They were xeroxed from the rulebooks that the coaches have. We have a pretty decent team and a good school, but now I'm getting scared fro SO too. :?

I hope something will change and you will still have SO next year. But have no fear, SCIENCE OLYMPIANS, UNITE!!!!! :ugeek:
