Where do you get funds from?

For anything Science Olympiad-related that might not fall under a specific event or competition.

Where do you get funds from?

Post by JoeyC »

Every SciOly club has to get its funds from somewhere; in order to cover the cost of registration, transportation, and other basic needs.
Some clubs even use their funds to supply build event materials and funds.

No matter what, money is a necessity for every club, and possibly even an enabler.

So here's the question: how do you guys get funds for your clubs?

Also: do SciOly clubs count as 501c3s?
(the parent organization is, but I'm not sure about the individual clubs)

We get funding for scio from our school district and donations i think. For the actual competition and build events some of it is from the individuals who do thsoe events

My school doesn't pay for anything except for tournament registration, shirts, and nationals. That's how I ended up spending $200+ for Towers and $400+ for Battery Buggy last year smh...

My school pays for all the materials needed for builds and stuff, but each family has to pay for transportation and stuff. We also got a small loan for winning a few evens at last year's nats

My team has a little extra in the joining fee, and they use that for the test C.D.s and the like. And, they'll pay up to half of the materials cost for builds, but they assume ownership of the build(s) at the end of the season.

Everyone on the team pays a $65 fee to join plus our district gives us $8k seeing how we perform insanely well year after year. That is 65(30)+8,000= $9950 for our team alone. Then we receive a nice juicy $10k profit give or take after hosting our own invitational so we end up with about $20k per season. About 40% of that is used for states and then I'd say 30% food and the rest is used for invitationals, transport, etc. Also, our district refunds us completely for all builds, textbooks, etc used for SciOly. We just don't get taxes back... :(
