Can we have a 1 kid signed up for an event?

For anything Science Olympiad-related that might not fall under a specific event or competition.

Can we have a 1 kid signed up for an event?

Post by deepasneh »

Hello All,

Is it possible for just 1 person sign up for some events? We right now have 10 kids, and the only way we can cover more events is if just 1 person signs up for an event.. Is that allowed?

Pl let me know!

Just read the rules! It says a team of upto 2 for each event.. So we could have just 1 kid sign up for an event

For almost every event this is allowed. In the rules for each event, near the top of the page, it will say "A TEAM OF UP TO" or "A TEAM OF" for the number of allowed participants. Almost every event says "up to." The only current event in Division B that requires 2 participants is Write It Do It.

Theoretically you can have 1 person in any event. We do that all the time, sometimes only having 1 person per team per event.
WIDI is an exception, but there's nowhere that says you can't enter one person. You'd lose, but in theory you can enter a team with just one.

If you have enough kids to spare multiple events, I recommend doing that for practice and lab events. Build events only need one person and frankly, two people can sometimes get hectic in tests. Going solo is completely fine and, as Galahad mentioned, it has been done quite often (at least in Hawaii).
