Trial Events

Post by JustDroobles »

How are trial events run at your Regionals and States? In my region (Region 12, MI), We had 3 trial events for Division B: Crack the Code, Naked Egg Drop, and Paper Airplane. these did NOT count toward the team score. I don't know what C trial events there were. Alternates or team members can compete in them.

At Michigan states there are no B trial events. There is 1 C trial event, helicopter duration, which does NOT count toward the team score. Alternates or team members can compete in them.

I've been curious about this topic after seeing different people post about different state's trial events scattered across the forums, so please enlighten me on how trial events run in your region and state. What events are they? Do they count toward your team score? Who can compete in them: alternates, team members, or both?

In NY, the Trials are- Sumobots and Car of Tomorrow; Sumobots is where you build a robot and people's robots fight, trying to push one another out of the specified boundary. Car of Tomorrow is a time trial with maglev cars that pull a weighted sleigh. (these are for B division idk about C)

These events DO NOT count toward the final score, and only team members can compete in them.

Trials are run at Regionals and State competions in NY

Actually, I'm pretty sure that trial events count at States for NY.

Ohio State Trials are Orthinology and Helicopter Duration
Nope they don't count for the team scores.
Only non competing people can do them for our team says my coach. But there is only one exception for Orthinology this year. :)

Div B NY Trial Events (car and sumobots)

Div C Trials were Sumorbots and Alternative energy- solar

At the state competition for both divisions trial events are part of your score (they count) only team members can participate in them. This means that there is a total of 25 events that are run at the competition.

Each regional competition is different however.
At WLI Div B they pck 20 out of the 25 events (2 of these must be the trial events) to run. Each team then can opt out (not do) of 2 events. so essential each team competes in 18 events
At WLI DIV C they pick 20 out of the 25 events (2 of these must be the trail events), but in contrast to div B you must do all of them.

Well, at NY States the trials count as full events, and at most Regionals as well, but I think there are a couple Regionals that don't count (or maybe don't run at all) the trial events. Maybe that's where the confusion came from.

In PA they don't count, and I'm kind of glad they don't, because imagine if your making it to states hinged on an event which is not event official, and is supposed to just be tried out.

In SC they don't have any trial events at state, and they also don't have 3 of the regular events.
