Re: Scrambler Rules
building a great scrambler will take some time, but building a decent one for regionals isn't that hard. My and my partner spent 3 days building it, we only tested it maybe 10 times and we got 4th at regionals. i'm sure if we tested it more, from 8-12meters and figured out how many turns we should put into the wheels we could of done better.

Re: Scrambler Rules
its not that hard, i think its easier then wright stuff and bridge. there are many plans/examples on the web. the wiki has pretty much all of them. it just takes a while to build and good planning.

Re: Scrambler Rules
Since this is a competition the relative difficulty of the event is entirely based on the quality of the competition. Saying that bridge is harder than Eggonaut, or scrambler is harder than trajectory dosn't really make any sense to me. All of the SO events are designed to be very easy to do, meaning it is very easy to build something that you can legally enter in the event, but winning is another story. The first year I did bridge I was told byt he coach that a 6-7 gram brige would probably win at Nationals. It turned out that year that the winning bridge weighed just over 3 grams, so the competition was much stiffer than I expected. But simply building a bridge or scrambler or trajectory, or robot, is not difficult at all. If you want to win at any of the events you better be prepared to put in some time, research, creative thinking, and careful construction, and hope that the competition doesn't do a better job than you.
Re: Scrambler Rules
Do u guys kno wat impound means? I can't figure that out. Also, if you go on youtube.com, they have a lot of pictures and videos of previous state scramblers. I also recommend making the weight stay on the car(goes a lot faster than a seperate pendulum.
Friends don't let friends go to Michigan!!!

Re: Scrambler Rules
well the impound is just that you have to bring your device to the judges during that time. then after the judges got all the devices they tell you the distance. you're not allowed to touch your device until it's your turn to go, and you only get 10 minutes. the impound is just so the team won't know what the distance is in advance, or they can just change it before the 10-min. time period.

Re: Scrambler Rules
exactly bob
impound usually happens at all lvs. (invitational, regional, state, nationals)
its mainly to prevent cheeting
you can easily find the distance out once comp. started
preset your scrambler
and it would save you much time
thats really all impound is used for

Re: Scrambler Rules
I'm having some problems with the scambler, paticuarly the axel. For some reson the axel seems to be moving as it goes through the wood like a nut on a thread rod. How can I stop this?
