Re: Forestry B/C
The USDA fact sheet for the Balsam Fir says "There are about 60,000 seeds in a pound." Does anyone know what this means?

Re: Forestry B/C
I doubt it means that each weighs 1/60,000 of a pound - that would make each seed weigh about .0076 gramsamerikestrel wrote:The USDA fact sheet for the Balsam Fir says "There are about 60,000 seeds in a pound." Does anyone know what this means?

I think that is exactly what it means.quizbowl wrote:I doubt it means that each weighs 1/60,000 of a pound - that would make each seed weigh about .0076 gramsamerikestrel wrote:The USDA fact sheet for the Balsam Fir says "There are about 60,000 seeds in a pound." Does anyone know what this means?
I am the Lorax. I speak for the trees. I speak for the trees, for the trees have no tongues.

Re: Forestry B/C
7.6 mg seems reasonable. A quick google search indicates that snowflakes are in that weight range too.quizbowl wrote:I doubt it means that each weighs 1/60,000 of a pound - that would make each seed weigh about .0076 gramsamerikestrel wrote:The USDA fact sheet for the Balsam Fir says "There are about 60,000 seeds in a pound." Re: Forestry B/C
Will tests have hardiness zone on them? And will you actually memorize the hardiness zones (I'm not saying that it's hard, but it's just extra work).

Re: Forestry B/C
Sibley actually has the hardiness zones map on the inside cover, and every hardiness number is given for every species.JSGandora wrote:Will tests have hardiness zone on them? And will you actually memorize the hardiness zones (I'm not saying that it's hard, but it's just extra work).

Re: Forestry B/C
audubon, i will admit, is great for all info. but the format, with two books for the whole north american continent, might be a problem, since michigan might not have a state list?
