[. I also recommend making the weight stay on the car(goes a lot faster than a seperate pendulum.[/quote]
I ask why? Without the weight attached to he car the vehicle will go a lot faster!!!

Re: Scrambler Rules
He is correct, anyway I'm thinking puting somting around the axel in the part where wood meets axel so the axel is some. Does this sound correct?Flavorflav wrote:I think (s)he means that the axle itself is traveling sideways. If this is the case, it is because the thread is grabbing the wood and you need to drill out the hole and put a bushing in, which is like a sleeve.cooltiger wrote:I'm having some problems with the scambler, paticuarly the axel. For some reson the axel seems to be moving as it goes through the wood like a nut on a thread rod. How can I stop this?
If it's just that the wingnut spins, you need the suspension rod. Put a thin dowel across the car parallel to the axle so that the wingnut hits it.
Also it would be he.

Re: Scrambler Rules
Yes, the thing you want to put around axle is called a bushing. Glue the bushing to the frame and lubricate it, unless you can find a Teflon one. Those you can use dry.

Re: Scrambler Rules
Sorry, but this is my first year of science olympiad and i was wondering what i could use for my wheels. So far, all the ideas i've seen were CD's with rubber bands around them, and roller blade wheels.
Does anyone else have any other ideas for wheels?

Re: Scrambler Rules
wheels are always crap, no matter what you do. for my team, it really is the only problem we have, because out coach will not allow us to put wheels on out supplies list, and they are the hardest to find and get "right". if you want the easiest to calibrate, use big wheels. like, GIANT. go to home depot or something and get lawn mower wheels, if you can. (and they will still fit in the perimeters) also, traction is a big problem, as you dont want any skid. i would try a few sets to see what happens, like some cheap razor skooter wheels or some toy car wheels with treads.

Re: Scrambler Rules
if you want big wheels use those old records. i tried using those but they kept breaking and i ran outof them. cd's with rubber bands work pretty well. you want to make sure that the rubber bands are glued securely onto the cd's
i also find them very easy to change if they break last minute or something. those roller blade wheels seem a little small.

Re: Scrambler Rules
Ok then. But I'm just thinking of using CDs for wheels. IF I am, can anyone help me to somehow make them actually ROLL? (Or just send me a link of HOW I could build a scrambler w/ CDs for wheels) Anyone? Anyone?
