I'd work against the bill but I'm sadly a few miles over the state line.

Well, these are good ideas, but you could also try a solution that is slightly closer to home. Coaches are very important and you need them, but they don't necessarily need to be teachers. If your Scio team really means a lot to you and your teammates, you guys could try to get your parents to coach. It would be harder, but you could save your team, and it is much more likely to work than petitions.

soobsession, we've never had glossy rulebooks. Do other teams get glossy rulebooks (besides the coach, of course) or is my district just that poor?

If it's already passed the legislature and the governor says he is going to sign it, it's probably too late to fight against it. Your teachers may be willing to coach at least some of the time without being paid; depends on the teacher and their personal situation. Perhaps not as many practices- you may have to do more work on your own- but definitely don't let go of your team. Some teams are entirely student run, with no coaches at all, just some teachers willing to sign the paperwork.

We've never gotten glossy rulebooks either, and my school is considered very well off financially for a public school. Either we lose so many rulebooks that they figure it's better if we just buy one (more likely) or the school doesn't want to give us the funds for buying ~20 rulebooks (less likely).

No glossy rulebooks???  That is an abomination to Science Olympian kind! Okay, maybe not, but that is kind of saddening. :( I'm glad I have at least one glossy rulebook. Well, it looks like we're not going to get glossy rulebooks ever again too. So...

Our team only gets one or two glossy rule books, then photocopies individual pages out of them for people. It's way cheaper, you only have to get the pages you need, you can write all over them, and you don't have to worry about people losing books.

Rules are rules. Glossy rule books really aren't necessary.

Wat the heck...our coach got like one glossy rulebook, and scanned out all the sheets and gave them to the people who had the events.

Why does every person on the team need a rulebook? And why glossy?...

Same for my team; our coach orders one or two rulebooks, and gives everybody a photocopy. The only reason I have a glossy rulebook is because I ordered my own.
