Re: Michigan 2010
Our team has done so at our regional in Ohio and few invitationals in previous years, which led to the creation of a new word on our team: "clinkage" n. The receiving of two or more medals at a tournament. Each medal gives you one clinkage for each medal previously earned (2 medals = 1 clinkage, 3 medals = 3 clinkage, 4 medals = 6 clinkage, etc.)Bogoradwee wrote:lol i remember at regionals last year we dominated. there was only one event that we didn't place it. we got sooooo many medals. and we went to dinner as a team afterwords and you could hear us walking around. *Clink* *Clink* *Clink* *Clink* *Clink* *Clink* *Clink* *Clink* *Clink* *Clink* *Clink* *Clink* *Clink* ....

Re: Michigan 2010
My son will be competing in the Wright Stuff event this year at U of M - Dearborn. He has build several planes and is testing them now in his school's gym. He is in 8th grade. Does anybody know what the winning times were last year at Dearborn? Does anyone know how high the ceiling is in the field house there? I'm just trying to see if he will be competitive and help him out if I can.
Thanks

I'm not in this, but you should probably post a rewording of this in the Wright Stuff forum...
Not specifically for MI, but just what the good times overall were...
After all, Michigan changes, so a better indicator probably actually is the National times...
I believe around 3 minutes won nationals last year...

Re: Michigan 2010
Weisswurst, as winneratlife already said, probably best asked over in the Wright Stuff thread.
But, since I know the answers, mostly...
If they do it in the field house as usual is is a pretty nice place to fly. About 1/3rd is curtained off for Wright Stuff and the air is amazingly nice, considering how little control of it there is. Floor space is about a full size basketball court in width, and slightly longer. Ceiling height is something like 40 ft or so. Not many obstacles, usual open rafters above the 40ft clear zone. The contest was in the hockey rink one year, even more floor space, not quite as tall ceilings, but DANG cold after being there all day. Some weird air currents too, but manageable.
You can fly more than three minutes in the field house if you know what you are doing, but performance at the this regional varies widely. It's not one of the Michigan powerhouses for Wright Stuff. A three minute flight would have won any of the past regionals flown in that site. Anything above two minutes will probably win, worst case top three. I expect a small handful of flights between one and two minutes, the rest far below.
Now, its probably too late, but there's LOTS of help available in region 8 for Wright Stuff.
The Cloudbusters Model Airplane Club flys indoor about every other Friday night up in the North Detroit suburbs at Heritage Middle School and is always happy to coach WS students. Check their website for details, dates and times.
In addition, I have a standing offer to any school that will host an event to come and provide coaching sessions from 1 hour to all day. Contents tailored to need of audience and proximity to contests. The only thing I ask is that you provide the site, handle all administrative details, and invite local schools participating in Wright Stuff. No minimum on how many show up, but an honest and timely invite has to be made to other schools to participate. Oh, and if its an all day event, lunch would be nice.

Re: Michigan 2010
Jeff's long-standing offer is a pretty darned good deal. He's done quite a few workshops at the invite of my many SO bosses in Michigan and Indiana. You walk out knowing how to build, trim and fly. And he does it all for the price of a lunch. That's cheaper than my price for Mission/Junkyard.
