Materials at Home That I Can Use as Covering Material

Is it possible to use any materials from home to use as covering material instead of Mylar?

I am currently building the FFM 2025-2026 Heli kit. While building, I suddenly got curious about if I could use any other material other than Mylar or veggie bags. What are some good contenders for covering material that have similar performance to Mylar and the accessibility of veggie bags?

I also have a J&H Tornado 2025-2026 that is going unused due to it being 5g, and I want to save it so I can use it as a good backup to my FFM Heli. With an answer, I can possibly use that material instead of the veggie bags that are currently on it.

Your best alternative to mylar is veggie bags. You will want to try different brands to see what is lightest. Possibly a dry cleaner bag would also be as light. However, I do not know of any other consumer items that are as thin as the film used in indoor flying.

You can buy additional covering material through various indoor suppliers such as INdoor Free Flight supply, FFM, J&H.

The small amount of covering on the heli means that alternative materials (veggie bags) will not greatly impact your mass.
