It does, however, if you are adding weight, that decreases time too. In addition, in some cases, the hole actually increases time slightly. (Faster deployment + more stable) Of course, the size of the hole is something to experiment with. Generally, you want the smallest hole that still makes the parachute deploy fast + remain stable in flight. There're also other ways of venting that you can play with.

Are Water Bottles fine for the competition?

Also, is this launcher ok for testing the rocket?

I'm sure that launcher would work. However, you can't use a regular water bottle if the water wasn't carbonated.

How do you guys position your parachute on your rocket? I'm using a tube design and I'm having trouble making our parachute release from the tube. As of now, I'm putting the ping pong ball on the tube and the rest of the parachute kinda just drapes over it... Pls help...

Put parachute directly on the tube, ping pong ball hanging at the side of the tube naturally.

Won't that create uneven drag on the rocket, forcing it to tilt to one side?

At least, that's what's happened to us during practice.

Hmmm really? Does your rocket use fins? I have huge fins on mine so that might help it? I've never quite had the problem... (since I put on the big fins)

Yes, our rocket has really large fins. The cup holding method seems to work the best for us, but we've tried different risky strats at invitationals to get a higher time (cup holding method takes really long to deploy).

Hmmm what's the cup holding method? Ping pong ball in a cup on top of the tube and parachute draped over the cup?

Yeah, that's right. It seems the most consistent for us but obviously it takes longer to deploy fully.
