Question regarding the pre-loaded energy

In reference to the mousetrap vehicle, can the drive string be pre-wrapped around the drive axle? I'm wondering if that violates the 3.b construction parameter (no pre-loaded energy devices that provide kinetic energy for propulsion).

I would think thats ok. I wind my drive string attached to the drive arm, but your team wraps the string and then connects it to the drive arm last correct? Just wrapping the string would provide no kinetic energy.

can you rephrase your question? I'm not seeing how wrapping a string could provide energy.
