No, the two are very, very different. Oceanography is really about the geographic aspect of oceans, while Marine Water Quality also includes estuaries and has to do more with the ecological aspect of oceans and salt water in general. However, Freshwater Water Quality and Freshwater are similar in things like stream order and the water cycle and parts of rivers and stuff.dchen22 wrote:Apparently this year Dynamic Planet was supposed to be Freshwater but it was redundant with Freshwater Water Quality. Won’t Oceanography be redundant with Marine Water Quality?

In that case will Freshwater just be removed from the Dynamic Planet rotation and replaced with another topic because Water Quality can just take its place?kate! wrote:No, the two are very, very different. This I'm not sure about, but maybe the rotations won't line up anymore because of Green Generation and because of the potential one-year Dynamic Planet rotations.dchen22 wrote:In that case will Freshwater just be removed from the Dynamic Planet rotation and replaced with another topic because Water Quality can just take its place?kate! wrote:No, the two are very, very different. There will still be two different events with basically the same topic. Hopefully Freshwater will get replaced.kate! wrote:This I'm not sure about, but maybe the rotations won't line up anymore because of Green Generation and because of the potential one-year Dynamic Planet rotations.dchen22 wrote:In that case will Freshwater just be removed from the Dynamic Planet rotation and replaced with another topic because Water Quality can just take its place?kate! wrote: No, the two are very, very different. The two will likely overlap somewhere though (e.g. properties of saltwater and turbidity/dO/pH of ocean water)?kate! wrote:No, the two are very, very different. Re: Science Olympiad Events 2019-2020
Oceanography is much more focused on the geology of the oceans and other aspects of physical oceanography, whereas to my understanding marine water quality is far more chemical and biologically oriented. That's my take on it anyway.UTF-8 U+6211 U+662F wrote:The two will likely overlap somewhere though (e.g. properties of saltwater and turbidity/dO/pH of ocean water)?kate! wrote:No, the two are very, very different. Re: Science Olympiad Events 2019-2020
I'm really interested in how the rules for detector will turn out next season. I don't know how they'll make the event so that there's a good enough gap between teams at a national level.

With how the event was set up this year, I'm concerned about it being competitive at even the state level.ericlepanda wrote:I'm really interested in how the rules for detector will turn out next season. We will not know for sure until SOSI in mid-JulySentientJello wrote:When's the soonest we'd get confirmation?whythelongface wrote:Oceanography is much more focused on the geology of the oceans and other aspects of physical oceanography, whereas to my understanding marine water quality is far more chemical and biologically oriented.
