it's not about the medals; go out there and have fun. make progress, learn a few things and have one heck of a time; that's all that matters.

Would it be against the spirit of the competition to build a pusher plane such that it would be more of a heli in the early to mid phase, that is just pushing up to the ceiling and staying there, then have it glide down later in the flight more similar to an airplane

I'm not sure how one would build something like this. Sounds cool though.

ummmmm idk abt that thats like a very sketchy approach and idk how you would even pull that off
id say just stick to the plans you have rn and try to make em better and better
if youre gonna try new ideas try one at a time and dont make em too extreme

Any recommendations for improving flight time based on this video? The effective ceiling height was 60 ft at the center, while going down to about 50 on the sides.

Move the cone?

The plane looks will trimmed. Given the ceiling height, launch torque looks ok, as the height reached was ok. No report of number of unwind, nor winds left at end.

So, improvement is not to be had from plane trim. Optimizing the rubber to the prop is primary, though without more data hard to tell. While an excellent time, others have reported similar rooms for lower ceiling, so there is likely more to be had.

This year, optimizing the mass of rubber comes into play as well.

I would think (hope?) That nationals will have a lower ceiling. SO had tried to keep times down to 3 minute range to keep things manageable. We'll see. If it is a more conventional ceiling (20-30 feet), you will need to work on balance of launch torque and rubber thickness to optimize lower ceiling time.

Overall an excellent flight with a well trimmed plane.
