It would depend on the ceiling heights of the two competitions, and the specific competitiveness of each competition. For regionals, I'd imagine a mid 1 minute flight would be good and mid 2 minute would be good at state

I have been hearing of times upwards of 2:50-3 minutes. Can anyone confirm?

Yes
Presumably with the FF kits? Any idea on whether or not they "cheated" and struck the ceiling and climbed back up?

Yes, with FF kits. Some do cheat, depending on the ceiling height. heh.

The times will be strongly influenced by ceiling height, so if reporting times report that as well.

Why would you consider touches as "cheating"? in a girdered facility, or with hanging lights, touches may result in a stuck plane. IN a smooth ceiling, if the room is large enough for potential redirection after a touch, why not touch? A no-touch is a thing of beauty, but in low ceiling (20') with smooth ceiling, it may be a necessity.

All depends on the environment. My states competition has the upper half of the gym as a triangular prism, so a plane hitting the ceiling is essentially game over.

The state competition for Indiana usually holds its aerial events in an indoor football field with about 80 ft of height. My high school gym does not come close to reaching that height. As such, are there any techniques I should use when test flying in my gym that will allow me to prepare well for state? I'm aware of the half motor testing and I intend to test that out. Other than that, should I be concerned with finding the max flight time in my gym, or should I focus on finding trends in my data and utilize those trends at state?

Thanks

maybe try seeing if any local religious building or gym is available for you on like a weekend or soemthing. you could always ask the state college if u can use their gym before tournament
it's not about the medals; go out there and have fun. make progress, learn a few things and have one heck of a time; that's all that matters.
