Anyone have good ideas for transporting WS on planes?

yeah! if you have any light plastic boxes that have openable lids that snap on or openable with hinges work really well. if you take tiny foam blocks and cut slots or poke holes in them so that the posts of the plane rest in them. if your plane cannot disassemble, find a plastic box without any sharp edges and a snap on lid. just place the plane in the box with the motor stick inserted to a single foam block with a slit in it. this will hold the plane in place so it doesn't slip during transport. you can just hot glue the foam to the box you choose to put it in. if the lid comes off easily, secure it with tape. we made the mistake of not doing that once and half our plane got carried away by the wind.

Oh alright, I was already kinda thinking about this but I have yet to find one that meets carry on requirements, as I don't trust tsa with any of my builds

good point. if you have a science teacher in your school who has extra boxes from like dna building kits or whatever, those should work. just try to aim for one that's plastic and see through so they don't think you're holding a bomb on the plane.

So I’ve experimented and found the ideal motor width for a set weight. I’m about to experiment with motor weights next, but I’m wondering if that particular width will be the ideal width for all weights. Does the effectiveness of a particular width of motor change with its weight?

Congratulations on some nice work. Yes, ideal “width” and length (or weight) are co-dependent.

Also, probably you are already doing this, but you should use density (grams/inch or grams/meter) instead of width.

I occasionally find a good piece of wood at the local Michaels store. If I mail order, I use Specialized Balsa and pay the extra to request the density that I need.
