If I were you I'd start studying this Saturday
Idk. From my experience last year, studying on the plane ride back works the best (or bus ride, if you don't have to travel insane distances to nats).

I would advise against this. The current guidance being sent to coaches by the Tournament Director is that practice runs/flights for mechanical devices will only be allowed Sat morning, in the event venue, and at ES discretion. I know teams have been penalized in Ohio in years past for ignoring similar restrictions.

Just to be clear, you can obviously practice off campus (e.g. at your hotel). I would avoid any of the official event rooms on campus.

Can we test at our dorm (Westfall Hall) that is inside the CSU campus?

Disclaimer: None of what I say represents the opinions of NSO or anyone associated with the organization of the National Tournament

This said, I have attended nationals numerous times and as the main tech person on my team, testing was a huge priority. You can DEFINITELY test in your dorm room - Nicholas was referring to buildings located on campus that are public spaces being used for thr tournament.

This "practice time" on SATURDAY MORNING, THE DAY OF COMPETITION is so USELESS. First of all, events with impound can't test at all. Second, many competitors have multiple events throughout the day and this will lead to some teams being able to practice and some not being able to. How does this fix the idea that teams arriving at different days of the week not getting equal practice time? Spoiler: It doesn't. Nicholas is referring to the whole Mentor Electric Vehicle "scandal" at Ohio States in which the team was caught testing in an adjacent hallway with the same floor the day before. Take away lesson? Dont test in the same area/room the event will be held in unless given explicit permission. You should NOT forgo testing at all because guess what? All the top teams will be testing SOMEWHERE, whether that be in their hotel, dorm, or some secluded region on campus. For all we know, there are teams testing with lookouts posted that will alert the people testing their device if anyone is approaching. It is SO IMPORTANT to test your device after travel and it is absolutely ridiculous that NSO thinks it is realistic to ban it. Do NASCAR teams just keep their cars in the trailers until the day of the race? Do runners run sprints without warming up and stretching?

So thats my rant. Find somewhere safe to test, wherever that might be, but do not forgo testing and handicap yourself. I wish all competing teams good luck. And to the builders: May the odds be ever in your favor
