I think this is cool but if you keep the probe inside it can affect heat loss. I ended up just using an instant read thermometer, and it worked (got first at states)

Why use probes; I've always just used my trusty old fashioned glass thermometer and it's worked just fine.

And you want to run the test as closely to the procedure they will be using at the event. I am guessing that most ESs will be using glass.

Problem is they can be very inaccurate depending on the thermometer that you have. I thermometers but I stopped using them when I realized that they were off by 3C. So yea........

Really? How long did you leave it in the water? It shouldn't be off by much more than a degree.

I mean u still could've used it right? Because its a system error you can just adjust your predictions by 3 degrees.

Well, glass thermometers tend to be super fragile and also take longer to respond than an instant read.
