Sounds was originally slated to be an event for this current year, but the decision was made to hold off on it until a revised version of the event could be tested as a trial event. That being said, it probably will replace Hovercraft for the 2019 season.

NOOOOOOO!!!! I love hovercraft :( (and hate the idea of Sounds of Music). It feels like such a subjective event

Thanks! Any speculation on what kind of revision? Like will they still have you build & play instruments? (I want to say I'll miss hovercraft but honestly that event is the bane of my existence)

I don't know what the revision is, but I wouldn't be surprised if the new rules exclude mayonnaise from the list of topics for the test.

That's what they're trying to change about it, so hopefully it won't be when it returns next.

Maybe they are requiring students to play certain notes and matching them as closely as possible. I know that when it was an event people were using phone apps that told you the pitch of the sound being played and helped them calibrate.

So is it Cant Judge a Powder next year or Potions and Poisons? I've heard a lot of rumble about P&P but I really like CJAP. Does anyone have any official confirmation?

Potions and Poisons is currently favored by the Chemistry Rules Committee (here), but it may change between now and mid-June.

Some questions, idk if anyone can answer but:
1) Will herpetology allow a binder (like in the 2016 NY trial rules), or just a field guide (like in the 2009 rules when it was last ran)?
2) What are the astro topics for next year?
3) Is Remote Sensing next year still going to focus on climate change?

Last year at Nats someone asked and the ES told them, so if no one answers then it's probably worth a shot to try emailing Donna or Tad if you can.
