Try wrapping the tower in bubble wrap to prevent any sort of damage...a cooler sounds like it could be kinda rough on it.JojoCho wrote:We've actually decided to use a large cooler now to transport our tower to MIT. I wish we could have a pelican case...but instead, we took thick cardboard from a television box and glued, taped, folded it, etc, into a tall cardboard box for our tower. While it isn't perfect, the cardboard (approx. 0.5-0.75cm thick) is strong enough to stop most punctures, and the box as a whole is resistant to collapsing in on itself (i.e. from collision with other heavy luggage). We packed the box with styrofoam and some shredded paper--which is actually surprisingly good packing material--and put old towers in and threw it around, dropped it, etc. The tower survived without any breaks.

Re: Tower Transportation
We've actually tested throwing around a tower (one that we didn't need anymore) and it survived pretty well, and we are filling the cooler with a ton of paper shred. But we might consider wrapping the cooler itself with bubble wrap to help out if other luggages are thrown onto it. And we're just letting the airport people know to be slightly more careful with our stuff.JojoCho wrote:ashmmohan wrote:Try wrapping the tower in bubble wrap to prevent any sort of damage...a cooler sounds like it could be kinda rough on it.JojoCho wrote:

Re: Tower Transportation
In general, the tower arrived in pretty good shape, besides a few bracings coming loose, the tower survived the flight!ashmmohan wrote:Wow you guys are checking the tower?JojoCho wrote:We've actually tested throwing around a tower (one that we didn't need anymore) and it survived pretty well, and we are filling the cooler with a ton of paper shred. We always carry on our tower...I couldn't imagine checking it as people may throw it around.Orion66 wrote:Yep! It arrived in one piece perfectly fine!ashmmohan wrote:Wow you guys are checking the tower?JojoCho wrote:

Re: Tower Transportation
Yeah...I know..but a hard shell and a bit of padding actually worked REALLY well. I suppose, since the tower itself is really light, any shaking of the tower should have only a tiny amount of energy to break things.ashmmohan wrote:We always carry on our tower...I couldn't imagine checking it as people may throw it around.Orion66 wrote:Yep! Re: Tower Transportation
