writing good is hard, building from a good written directions should be easy.
if the writing person does bad, the building would be hard
TEAMWORK!!!

(I don't know, just thought of that)

i agree i think it takes teamwork and practice on both sides to do well/make it a little easier. the writing gets better as you learn more about your teammate and how he/she thinks when he/she reads your writing.

Last week my WIDI people did their first ever exact duplicate!! I was so proud of them. The structure had about 30 pieces to it.
Although both writing and doing require a lot of skill, i find that writing is more difficult than building. I've had to work with my writer a lot more than my builder. With my builder all we really had to go over is what to call everything and teach him how to interpret the writer's writing.

Do you know what Div C did last year for Southern Regionals here

Yeah it was like a piece of chicken wire that was woven through a stick with things attached to the wire, it looked insane.

The writing is the most important part of the event. Theoretically, if you're a good writer, you could just hand your directions to anyone and they could reproduce the structure. Of course, that never happens and what it comes down to is the team knowing each other. But you can't really say one is harder than the other... they're interconnected. You can't be a good writer if you don't have a builder who knows what you write, and you can't be a good builder if your writer is abysmal.

I've switched partners several times, and it was much easier to write for my builder last year (who wasn't the one that knew me the best, or the one I practiced the most with, but who was definitely the best at figuring out what the writer meant) than with any of the others. In 7th grade, I did WIDI with my best friend; she knew me better than basically anyone else, we were practically telepathic sometimes, and we still didn't do as well as I did with the other builder who was just better at the event.

hey quick question, i just realized, are bullet lists allowed? i dont think a key board can make them...

edit: i guess i could use periods at the beginning of sentences and define it at the beginning...

I wouldn't use bullets if i were you. It's better to go with dashes. (-)

Yeah, dashes are a lot faster to make, and nobody could argue that they're illegal symbols.
Personally, I use numbered steps, so I can reference earlier steps if I need to.

i was thinking about it today during some event building, and i agree. numbers would make a lot of sense! it would also make it much easier for referencing. i remember at regionals at one point i wrote "at bullet 20, follow..." i felt bad because my partner had to count all those bullets! thanks!
