OMG Spirit Award for SAA!
Congrats to Beckendorff on an outstanding first in B division, and Winston Churchill!
I personally think that we took Grayslake's spirit from IL and brought it to nationals, had they been there they would have gotten the spirit award as well.

Not as bad as rocks. The people who ran it were nice and I think they honestly tried, so I don't want to badmouth them, but given how the event was run I doubted they knew much about scioly at this level.fozendog wrote:Ugh, that was bad.PastorisFilius wrote:Yeah, my friends were all nervous because of that. Did you take the geomapping test? That was really short.
Honestly, there's something wrong with a NATIONALS test if there isn't even a staple used in the test packet (well, single sheet of paper). They had the entire room, 3 rows of desks, and they crammed all the stations into one row. We were standing shoulder-to-shoulder; it was impossible to communicate with your partner without being heard.
Never argue with an idiot, they will drag you down to their level and then beat you with experience.

How do you even make a short Rocks test?chinesesushi wrote:Not as bad as rocks. When writing the NY state Rocks test, we had a hard time paring it down from 180 questions and left it at 150 or so, we absolutely did not want to make it any shorter.
I don't know how many stations it was at Nationals, but with 10 teams per session, it had to be 10 at the minimum. With 10 stations, you can allow 4 minutes a station for a comfortable 40 minute time slot. With 4 minutes per station, you could easily give 7-10 minerals/rocks to identify plus 10-15 questions. To have a short test is just pathetic.
I wish I was the Rocks and Minerals/Fossils Nationals supervisor.

What is the tiebreaker rule for nationals? Based on medals, SAA has more, but Springhouse has the highest placing with 2nd in CJAP.Astroknight wrote:I would like to note that Science & Arts tied with Springhouse.

Usually the tiebreaker is most gold medals, then if that doesn't break the tie, most silver medals, most bronze medals, etc.
