Re: Worst books
Hurr... I haven't read a really bad book in a long time. I gave up all hope on Treasure Island, though. That was so boring.

Re: Worst books
For LA once, we had to read an excerpt of Utopia by Thomas More. Pretty much, it was about this island of people without human instincts, modesty, or respect for other cultures. They were very sexist, racist, and JUST PLAIN STUPID. All of PI+ 8th grade HATED it (for good reason - if you have no appreciation for good writing, find out those reasons), and we made comments like "No wonder this guy was executed!" (He was
) We could barely survive the excerpt, so there is simply no possibility of the whole "book." So, my advice is: Don't read it. The only purpose for this lame excuse for literature that makes Twilight look like Shakespeare is to troll people you hate. And to start a fire.

Re: Worst books
I will give a little credit to Twilight for getting people to start reading, but it's really not something I am a fan of.

Re: Worst books
I disliked The Golden Compass. It was really against what I believe. I felt like the entire point of the book was to tell me how Christians are all hypocrites. Ok, yess, some people believe that. But, this is a "kids" book. A lot of people I'm sure, like me, read this thinking it was just a book, it's not gonna intentionally display one's beliefs in such a negative way.
Needless to say, this book ticked me off.
It's one thing to put something positively than it is to put negatively.

Was your issue with the quality of the book itself, or were you just upset because it wasn't supporting what you believed? (I haven't read the book yet, and am just curiousI disliked The Golden Compass. It was really against what I believe. I disagreed with ANTHEM, but I listened to the points the book was trying to make.

Re: Worst books
Well, I found the book rather dull, too.geminicross wrote:Was your problem with the book itself, or with the fact that it insulted Christianity? I'm sure there are a toon of books that disparage Atheism.
I disagreed with ANTHEM but that doesn't mean I didn't like it.
I also think that Phillip Pullman really just, as you said, insulted Christianity. I mean, it's one thing to have a story with magic in it. Even explaing that magic to an extent is okay. It's another thing to portray another's beliefs so negatively that they look evil. And that it was a childrens book...
