This is the list of all the diseases that we are going to cover.
Hope it helps!

Yeah the link above really helps. The funny thing is, the tests do have foodborne stuff, but sometimes things are thrown in that are completely weird. I think it's best to be well rounded.Swag wrote:What are some of the common food-borne illnesses we should know about it??

What disease did cured ham actually have?
If 4 out of 5 people SUFFER from diarrhea...Does that mean the fifth one enjoys it?
I used to be healthy, until I took an arrow to the knee and got gangrene.

Just a random thought, but would acute rhinitis be considered endemic in our population? I thought it would be because of the fact that it's always present at some level in our population, but I wasn't sure.

Re: Disease Detective B/C
I don't actually think it would be an endemic. It's kind of strange thinking that having a stuffy/runny nose is part of an ongoing endemic. I think it would have to be independent of seasonal fluctuations to be considered a disease that is always present in a population.prelude to death wrote:Just a random thought, but would acute rhinitis be considered endemic in our population? I wouldn't necessarily agree with your last sentence. Malaria in sub-Saharan Africa is certainly dependent on seasonal fluctuations, but it's definitely endemic there.EpicFailure wrote:I don't actually think it would be an endemic. Re: Disease Detective B/C
This event at my upcoming regionals is going to be a lab or stations, does anyone with past experience have any ideas on how an lab or station-based Disease Detectives would differ from a exam-based one?

Re: Disease Detective B/C
Chances are, the individual portions of the test such as calculating relative risk, definitions, and disease identification / matching will be done at each station, instead of in a full test. I wouldn't expect long scenarios or the like.GoNerdHerd wrote:This event at my upcoming regionals is going to be a lab or stations, does anyone with past experience have any ideas on how an lab or station-based Disease Detectives would differ from a exam-based one?

Re: Disease Detective B/C
At our Invitational, one of the questions was: which foodborne illness is most associated with raw milk? We said Campylobacter but that was incorrect.
Also, what kinds of formulas do we need to know? I have relative risk, odds ratio, attack rate, mortality/fatality rate. Anything else?
