Instead of using a whole sheet for a template, and having to fold it so it fits in the laser shoot box, can I just bring a very small sheet of paper, with only a mirror that has a 45 degree laser beam ray on it, and just punch one hole in it?

Well, I would just just have it pre-cut before hand, and then inserted into like a sheet protector or something. Then, I'd take the sheet protector out of the binder for the laser shoot. I dont know, whatever floats your boat.

Thereby having a binder for the geometric portion and the physical portion... I would assume so but I haven't read anything preventing that and honestly hadn't thought of it until now.
I would think it may be against the spirit of the rules, but I think you should let Chalker give you an unofficial clarification about it (or another notable supervising figure, for that matter).

Unofficially of course, I concur.

A question I stumbled upon...
Light of wavelength 500 nm shines on a soap film (n=1.46). For what soap film thickness, other than the minimum thickness, will constructive interference occur?
I have no idea how to start...any help? Thanks!

Constructive interference occurs at odd multiples 1t, 3t,5t, etc where t=thickness and is the following equation: t=λ/(4n). The minimum would be at 1t and thus the next smallest would be at 3t. So multiply the value from t=λ/(4n) by 3 and you should get 257nm. :D

Since the templates are not references, which need to be 3-hole punched as described section 2b of the rules, I would say they do not need to be hole punched at all. (Templates are in Section 2a). Nevertheless, I do put them in a sheet protector for good measure.

So destructive interference would occur starting at λ/2n?

I believe so, with deconstructive interference occurring at even multiples (It's actually even 180 degree phase changes and such, which gets to complicated for me to be able to explain without failing miserably so I have simply said even multiples for deconstructive and odd for constructive as that should generally be enough to solve).

A spaceship is moving away from an asteroid at a relative velocity of 2.8481 x 10^8 m/s. The spaceship sends a signal with a frequency of 5 x 10^6 Hz to a base located on the asteroid. What is the frequency of the signal measured by the base?
This is From the Camas Division B test. I'm using the doppler shift equation but I get a answer that doesn't match that of the answer key. I am using 0 for speed of observer and 2.6461 x 10^8 for speed of the source.

Also, what time what you use the equation for redshift/blueshift. http://www.wolframalpha.com/input/?i=re ... th+formula

If it's moving away, then the wavelength will increase therefore it's a red shift. If it's moving closer, then the wavelength will decrease meaning it will be a blue shift.
