They are, my mistake. I can't remember how exactly they're related off the top of my head, but I believe it involves the Rydberg equation.
For hydrogen, the energy of shell n in eV is given by E=-13.6/n^2. Just found this among my notes that I did not put in my binder.

Does anyone know if it would it be illegal to hole punch (drill  ) a binder and stick it within the binder.... So that upon the start of the competition one could remove it... Thereby having a binder for the geometric portion and the physical portion... I would assume so but I haven't read anything preventing that and honestly hadn't thought of it until now.

I don't get how that would work out, and also, the rules say 1 binder, so that would technically be 2 binders.

I would think it may be against the spirit of the rules, but I think you should let Chalker give you an unofficial clarification about it (or another notable supervising figure, for that matter).

If you truly need the binder like that, I think it means you need to study a bit more. ;) It's nice to have the info in your head.

Around how many papers do you guys keep in a binder? All I put are the color combination charts, parts of the eye definitions, and optics formulas. In the back, I have around 40 pages from my physics textbook, all separated by tabs, just in case something else pops up.

Not so much that we need, but rather it is useful. My partner and I have knowledge for both portions of the event, but we tend to split the test as we are each better at a different part. Having a larger binder/both trying to look at different things gets annoying. Also, it just seems simpler when you are the one who made the binder that you end up using. Saving say 3 minutes overall can really be a difference in score. For example, at an invitational this year we got 1st by half a point without even managing to finish the test (was fairly long/had to show work for every calculation). I would have loved 3 more minutes there so it might not have been as close.

~In response to how many papers we have, we have about 100 papers and some old tests.

There really isnt a need to if the binder is already split into 2 sections. And I'm pretty sure you are allowed to take stuff straight out of the binder once competition starts.
